January 22, 2015 - Hip 183, a share of Prodigious (Goetmals Wood-Imagine d’Odyssee) led session two at Arqana Trot’s Prix d’Amerique Sale. JLB Management was the buyer.  Other stallion share were in solid demand – Royal Dream €46,000; Quaker Jet at €45,000; and €40,000 for an Up And Quick share. The latter starts Sunday in the Prix d’Amerique. The broodmare Queen Jet (Viking’s Way-Idole), in foal to Prix d’Amerique winner Royal Dream, brought €40,000. Overall 95 head were catalogued in this session with eight outs and 27 RNA’s, leaving 60 sold for €960,500. Total gross sales for the two sessions to date are €1,644,000 for an average of €10,340. The first two Kriterieau yearling sale sessions are complete in Stockholm, Sweden and the colts dominated the action in the sale conducted by ASVT's Trottex AB, a subsidiary to the Breeding Association in Sweden (ASVT), that is the leading auction company in Sweden for harness racing horses. Session leaders were Bungle Rain (colt, Andover Hall-Miss Possessed-Self Possessed) in session one, sold to Never Ending Holiday for 1.25SEK million (US$173,526). Consigned by Stutteri Dust, this colt is from the maternal family of Magic Tonight (5,475,831SEK), Oyster Kronos (1,753,063SEK) and Lookout Victory (13,984,237SEK). Session one top 10 sellers showed two each by Ready Cash and Scarlet Knight. The top filly sold was Unchained Feelings by Maharajah from Emotional Dust by Banker Hall. 75% of the catalogued lots sold. Top 10 Session 1 Statistics Session 1 Session two dropped off markedly from the Thursday action but was still solid at the upper level as 75.6% sold led by lot#203, Dajmen Am, a colt by Jaded-Nirvana F.H.-SJ's Photo. The second foal of the dam, this colt is from a prolific maternal family in Sweden with eight winners of over one million SEK including Indus (5,130,405SEK), a Danish Derby winner. AmBloodstock AB was the consignor with Roger Walmann signing the ticket. Colts again dominated with the top eight sellers. Zola Boko ( a son of Goetmals Wood-Big Blue Kitten-Pine Chip) was the sire of three of the top 10. Astor du Quenne (4m Opus Viervil-Qualinka des Quenne-Extreme Aunou) easily vanquished ten rivals in today’s €120,000 purse monte Gr. II Prix Ceneri Fuccinal for four year-olds at Paris-Vincennes. Eric Raffin rode the winner, for trainer Sebastian Guarato and owner Ecurie Hs de la Coquenne, to his 11th career victory now for €353,340 earned. Off at 4.7/1 odds the winner scored in 1.12.7kr over 2175 meters to defeat Al Capone Jet (4m Jag de Bellouet-Passion de Morgane) with Mathieu Abrivard up and A Nous Dous (4f Goetmals Wood-Nina Madrik) ridden by Nathalie Henry. Arqana-Trot completed its three day select yearling sale at Deauville today. 302 French yearling trotteurs sold for €7,206,000, an average of €23,861, 2.2% below prior year for the three session event. 63.6% of the 475 offered actually sold (after outs). Last year 70.5% sold from the 512 offered. Session #3 featured offspring of new stallions and this group of 128 sold averaged €23,000. Hip #398 (Dakota Race), a Texas Charm-Trotting Race filly, led the final session, bringing €100,000 from SCEA Ecurie Le Tremont. Sons of Timoko were next at the top today. Gross proceeds totaled €2,176,500 for 70 sold (1 no sale), an average of €31,093. The median was €26,000.  The sale leader was four year-old male Alex The Winner (4m Orlando Vici-Likely Jet-Defi’d’Aunou), a four time winner to date from 13 career starts, earning €85,520. He is a half-brother to €242,212 winner Redlight Jet with a 1.11kr record. He brought 301,000 euros or $407,000 US. Mack Grace SM (8m CC’s Chuckie T-Ambro Grace SM-Armbro Goal) won his elimination heat and the final of this Gr. I event over 1640 meters autostart timed in 1.12.5kr (final) at Ippodromo Sesana un Italy on Friday. The Roberto Andreghetti reined, Lucio Colletti trained veteran won both with relative ease to secure his 55th career win in 100 starts, now with earnings in excess of €1.6 million. Purse of the two eliminations was €14,300 and the final went for €103,400. Owen CR (6m Cantab Hall-Boemia CR-Lemon Dra) won the first elimination in 1.12.7kr and was a solid second in the final for Pietro Gubellini. Louvre (9m Piccardo-Defile-Ganymede) with Federico Esposito, Papalla (5f Varenne-Day Love Blue-Ganymede) reined by Marco Stefani and Nonant le Pin (7f Goetmals Wood-Blazing Janice-Pine Chip) with Alesaandro Gocciadoro earned third through fifth. Muscle Boy AS, a yearling colt sired by Muscle Hill and out of the Italian mare Zelda Per, fetched the top price of $175,000 at the annual harness racing Derby Sale, held at the Mariendorf Racetrack in Berlin. Muscle Boy AS was raised and bred by Alwin Schockemühle, who for many years was the leading breeder in Germany, but he has now scaled down and has only eight mares at his stud farm. Muscle Buy AS was bought by the Austrian Serena Hamberg, who owns an elder brother to Muscle Buy AS named Istogramma SAS (sired by Diamond Way), who has a mark of 1:55.3 and earnings of $200,000. The average price at the Derby sale, dropped 18 percent to $13,710. The German Trotting Derby, the 119 Deutsches Traber Derby raced over the 1-3/16th mile distance, was won by the favorite, Expo Express, driven by his breeder and trainer Arnold Mollema from The Netherlands. Expo Express had to trot outside without cover for most of the trip, but was an easy winner in 2:01 (mile rate). The purse for the winner was $145,000. Expo Express is sired by the Italian stallion Expo Bi (he by Toss Out) and out of Pine Spirit (she by Pine Chip). Pine Spirit is also the dam of Unforgettable (sired by Diamond Way), who Mollema guided to victory in the Derby in 2005. The filly division, raced over the same distance and with a purse for the winner of $65,000, was won by another Dutchman, Hugo Langeweg Jr., who was in the bike behind Pippi Barosso (she by Goetmals Wood). The European trotting stallion Sam Bourbon is off to a good start in the Southern Hemisphere with his talented son Twice As Much making it two wins from two starts when he took out the New South Wales Breeders Challenge Final for two year old harness racing trotters at Menangle on Sunday. After sitting in the death seat for the entire journey, Twice As Much asserted his superiority in the straight to win comfortably in 2:01.4 for the mile with closing sectionals of 57.4 and 28.4. Bred in New Zealand by Grant Beckett, Twice As Much is one of six two year olds sired down under by this son of the French sire, Goetmals Wood. Sam Bourbon won 6 races from 26 starts in Europe, taking a mark of 1:55.1 on his way to earning (E) 373,430 in stakes. Aside from the six two year olds, he has one yearling and nine weanlings waiting  in the wings and covered eleven mares in the last breeding season. Twice As Much has plenty to recommend him on his maternal side as well being a half brother to the smart trotter KD Commando ($67,832) and KD Muscles ($40,297). His dam Kazzle Dazzleis by Armbro Invasion and won ($52,611) and was a half sister to the talented trotters What Ever You Like ($138,094) and Avatar ($86,617). This is the noted “Alabama” trotting family which has had so much success over the years, especially in age group racing. The eight year old gelded son of Gazouillis scored in 1.13.7kr over Italy’s Nene’Degli Ulivi with Alexandre Abrivard in the irons, as the slight favorite. The winner recorded his 16th career victory. Tonnerre du Gers captured an easy win for owner/trainer/driver Jean-Michel Bazire. The seven year-old son of Mambo King covered 2650 meters in 1.14.6kr for his 10th career victory.
