Cokstile (Norwegian bred) took the prestigious Grand Premi Delle Nazioni – Edy Gubellini (purse 275,000€, 2250 meters autostart) this weekend at Milano La Maura’s 1050 meter track. The six year old son of Quite Easy-Joystile-Coktail Jet) was reined by Antonio DiNardo for trainer Gennaro Casillo to the 1.11.2kr timed victory, a record for the distance. Starting from post two Cokstile was in front for much of the journey and was an easy winner by three lengths over Vitruvio (4m Adrian Chip-Tigre OM-Zebu) teamed with Alessandro Gocciadoro who sent five trainees in this event. Vivid Wise As (4m Yankee Glide-Temple Blue Chip-Cantab Hall) took third money for V.P. Dell’Annunziato with fourth to the Jean Michel Bazire trainee Bel Avis (8g Ganymede-Gloria Maris-Workaholic) that Andrea Guzzinati catch drove. The race honored the late Edy Gubellini that developed and piloted numerous classic winners and internationally renowned performers. He won the Lotteria Prize twice, the Italian Derby and the Nazioni (with Micron Hanover). The GP Nazioni has been of special history to special horses that graced its victory celebration (Icare IV, Quick Song, Timothy T and Wayne Eden among others). It is relevant that today the post positions were drawn for the 60th edition of the International Trot scheduled for October 12 at Yonkers Raceway. Italy has a starter in Zacon Gio to be teamed with Roberto Vecchione for trainer Holger Ehlert. He will start from post five in this race for a US$1 million purse. April 25, 2019 - The Gran Premio Nazionale Open and Filly divisions took place Thursday at Milano La Maura (1050 meter track) with the Gr. II Nazionale Filly (purse 88,000€, 1650 meters autostart, 14 starters) beginning the harness racing action. In that one Audrey Effe (3f Up And Quick-Simphony Effe-Going Kronos) drew off to an easy 1.13kr score for pilot Andrea Farolfi. Rallying for second was A Sexygirl Par (3f Varenne-Fight For Lux) reined by V.P. Dell’Annunziata. Third went to Alouette (3f Village Mystic-Dordogne-Viki Audrey Effe The Nazionale Open (Gr. I, purse 154,000€, 2250 meters autostart, 12 starters) went to the favored winner Axl Rose (3m Love You-Linda di Casei-Uronometro) clocked in 1.12.3kr. Alessandro Gocciadoro teamed the winner to a decisive score over Al Capone Stecca (3m Napoleon Bar-Ombretta Bar-Ganymede) handled by G.P. Minnucci and third finishing Aladin Effe (3m Maharajah-Imperfection Effe-Varenne).  Axl Rose On the undercard was the Gr. III Ettore e Mario Barletta (Gr. Alessandro Gocciadoro enjoyed a fine day at Milano winning five including the GP Nazionale. His other wins were with Afrodite Grif (3f Varenne-Fauve Grif-Viking Kronos) in 1.12.7kr; Tantalio (7m Le Touquet-Powerful Victory-Valley Victory) in 1.11.5kr; Zaniah Bi (4f Equinox Bi-Fendi Bi-Sugarcane Hanover) in a record 1.10,5kr; and the 1.11.3kr clocked Visia Spin (5f Varenne-Karisma Jet-Enjoy Lavec). The batterias have been announced for the May 1 running of the Gr. I UET Masters Series Gran Premio Lotteria, its 70th edition and with a total purse of 765,900€. There are three batterias and eight upper level trotters in each, followed by the final and a consolation raced at the Agnano racecourse. Friday’s harness racing action at Milan Italy featured the Grand Premio Nazionale Prep (purse 13,200€, 2250 meters autostart) and Axl Rose (3m Love You-Linda di Casei-Uronometro) impressed with a 1.13kr seven-length victory with trainer Alessandro Gocciadoro driving.   The career winner of 170,714€ defeated Adelante (3m Ready Cash-Iniziale) reined by Marco Smorgon and third finishing Ares Caf (3m Ideale Luis-Ira Caf) with Andrea Guzzinati the pilot. The in the Premio Lana del Rio (purse 13,200€, 1650 meters autostart) the winner was Vitruvio (5m Adrian Chip-Tigre OM-Zebu) clocked in 1.11.3kr. He was a five length winner after rallying from fifth with a three-wide move into the final turn. Trainer Alessandro Gocciadoro reined the winner of 697,196€. Victory in a close brush at the line was post 12 Zaccaria Bar (3m Ready Cash-Finlanda-Lindy Lane) reined by Federico Esposito and timed in 1.13.6kr. This colt recorded his second victory in three 2018 starts and now has five wins in eight career appearances. Zilath (3m Maharajah-Only LB-Conway Hall) was a close second driven by Andrea Guzinatti. October 1, 2017 - A super harness racing program was held Wednesday at Milano, including the Orsi Mangelli Open and Filly, the Gran Premio Delle Nazioni and the Coppa de Milano. Recaps of those events follow. The Orsi Mangelli Filly (Gr. I, purse €77,000, 1650 meters autostart) went to 1.11.9kr Vallecchia DR (3f Adrian Chip-Fiammetta DX-Uronometro)  with an easy front end score for Alessandro Gocciadoro,  Villa Santina Jet (3f Igor Font-Lunigianna Jet-Supergill) was second for Santo Mollo and third was Vanatta (3f Pascia’Lest-Classic Toy-Malabar Man) driven by Roberto Vecchione. The Gr. June 23, 2017 - Uno Italia (4m Conway Hall-Italia Uno-Varenne) scored an easy harness racing victory in the Prix Ubatuba Oaks (purse €13,200, 1650 meters autostart) at Milano on Friday. Lorenzo Baldi teamed the winner of this four year old event that was timed in a sharp 1.10.9kr (mile rate 1:54.08) as Uno Italia was victorious by open lengths. June 17, 2017 - The great Vivid Wise As (3m Yankee Glide-Temple Blue Chip-Cantab Hall) took Saturday’s Gran Premio Nazionale (purse €187,000, 2250 meters autostart) at Milano over their 1050 meter oval. Enrico Bellei was the pilot for trainer Marco Smorgon. Allev. Della Serenissima SS bred the front-stepping winner of 10 of 11 career starts, and three for three this year, now for €260,821 earned. Timed in 1.12.7kr, the winner bested Vitruvio (3m Adrian Chip-Tigre OM-Zebu) driven by Pietro Gubellini and third went to Vessillo As (3m Mondiale OK-Yankee Dapple-Donerail) with Edouardo Baldi at the lines. This one was bred by the same farm as the winner. The undercard showcased the Gran Premio Nazionale Filly (purse €66,000, 1650 meters autostart) and the 1.13.7kr timed winner was Valdivia (3f Adrian Chip-Love On The Rocks-Donerail) driven by Roberto Vecchione. January 15, 2017 - Today’s Gran Premio Encat (purse €25,300, 2250 meters autostart) went to 1.14.4kr timed Tano Fohle SM (5m Ganymede-Fohle BSM-Sugarcane Hanover) with harness racing driver Roberto Vecchione up. The sharp trotting colt recorded his 15th victory in 22 starts. November 1, 2016 - The impressive Unicka (3f Love You-Bachar-Armbro Goal-Drona-Granit-Elamy-Pro Hanover) won her Mangelli elimination and final, both easily, today for harness racing driver Pietro Gubellini and trainer Erik Bondo. In the final she scored easily timed in 1.12.2kr (1:56.07 mile rate), drawing off at top of the stretch to secure the Gran Premio Paolo E. Orsi Mangelli (purse €220,000, distance 1650 meters autostart over the 1050 meter track in Milano). Uncorno SLM (3m Love You-CL Brightness-King Conch-Armbro Brilliance-Dream of Glory-Armbro Regina) was second for Robert Vecchione after being second in his elimination. Third was Ubertino Grif (3m Libessio Grif-Nebraska Grif-Varenne) with Alessandro Gocciador up. Norway’s Phantasm SOA (3m Cromwell-Uiver H-Uxer LB) ended fourth for Bjorn Goop after a pocket journey and fifth was Uma Francis (3f Exploy Caf-Fashion Dei Sogni-Lemon Dra) for Enrico Bellei. As stated, Unicka (below photo) took the first elimination timed in 1.11.5kr (1:55.04 mile rate) by six lengths for Gubellini. Uma Francis (3f Exploit Caf-Fashion dei Sogni-Lemon Dra) defeated open harness racing rivals this day to win the Gran Premio Nazionale (purse €220,000, 2250 meters autostart) at Milano, Italy, timed in 1.14.8kr for the length victory over the 1000 meter (5/8 mile) track. Enrico Bellei teamed the winner that defeated United Roc (3f Filipp Roc-Estasi Roc-Princely Fellow) with V-P Dell’Annunziata aboard. Third went to Usque DL (3m Equinox Bi-Gritta Bi-Buvetier d’Aunou), this one the second dam Graphite Rod is a Supergill-Anamosa Hanover daughter. The Gran Premio Nazionale Filly (purse €66,000, 1650 meters autostart) resulting in an easy open-lengths victory for the 1.12.6kr timed Unicka (3f Love You-Bachar-Armbro Goal) teamed also by Enrico Bellei. The second dam of this filly is Dropa, sired by Granit (Ayres-Roquepine). Second in the Filly was Ulala’ Degliulivi (3g Gruccione Jet-Gioiamar-Supergill) with Santo Mollo driving, ahead of third finishing Unique du Kras (3f Varenne-Oljka du Kras-Park Avenue Joe) driven by Alessandro Gocciadoro.
