Oh No Three Oh (Jeff Long) charges in the stretch to win featured trot ($6,500) at Vernon Downs on Thursday (August 16). Kabu (John MacDonald) went right to the front and controlled all the early fractions (:27.3, :57.0, 1:25.4). Oh No Three Oh ($4.70) found himself in fourth after three-quarters . Owned by Charlene Long and trained by Paul Long, he went three-wide at the top of the stretch and blew by just before the wire to win in 1:54.2. Gimme The Cash (Claude Huckabone III) came up to finish second. Kabu held on to be third best. Oh No Three Oh is an 11-year-old gelding by Ken Warkentin. It was his third win of the season and his 35th career victory. Jaclyn Hanover (John MacDonald) wins the fillies and mares pace feature ($6,500). It's A Miracle (Truman Gale) led the way to all the early fractions (:28.1, :56.4, 1:24.3). Jaclyn Hanover ($3.70) sat in the pocket all the way to the stretch. Owned and trained by MacDonald, she popped the pocket and ran down It's A Miracle and held off the late charge of second place finisher, Heart Crusher (Josh Kinney) to win in 1:52.4. It's A Miracle held for third. Jaclyn Hanover is a 6-year-old mare by Dragon Again. It was her fourth win this season and career win number 17. MacDonald and Michael Miller each had driving doubles. MacDonald got his other win with Choke Hold ($9.10). Miller went to the winner's circle with Ex Crown ($4.50) and American JJ ($19.80). Live racing returns to Vernon Downs on Friday (August 17) featuring the Dr. Harry M. Zwieg Memorial for 3-year-old trotting fillies ($180,000) as well as the Zweig Memorial elgible for all 3-year-olds trotters ($350,000). There will also be two divisions of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for freshman pacing fillies. Vernon, N.Y. - The most drastic change of tactics possible proved no issue for K J's Caroline ($4.80), who once again was best among the top distaffers at Vernon Downs in Thursday (September 29) evening's featured harness racing $9,900 Mares Open pacing event. The 6-year-old Roddy's Bags Again mare, who typically plays a big role in the pacesetting duties, dropped to last immediately, sitting well off pacesetter Yes You Can (Truman Gale) through a strong yet even pace of :27.4, :56, and 1:24. Roman Lopez angled K J's Caroline off the pegs with five-sixteenths to go, and the pair made immediate headway before they were carried to the four-path off the far turn by Southern Girl (Fern Paquet, Jr.), who angled to the three-path out of third just upon cornering for home. K J's Caroline would sustain her bid through a :27.1 individually-timed closing sectional to just collar Southern Girl by a neck in 1:52.1. Yes You Can gave way under duress in deep stretch, but narrowly held third from Bettorhaveanother (Brett Derue). For K J's Caroline, the second straight Vernon win was her seventh of the year and the 30th of her career. Paul Long handles the training duties for owner-breeder Scott Woogen. Live racing returns to Vernon Downs on Friday (September 30) evening with an 11-race card due to commence at 6:45 p.m. Eastern. by James Witherite, Vernon Downs

Vernon, N.Y. -- Charlene Long's Oh No Three O ($8.10) passed all four of his rivals in Friday (July 29) evening's featured $8,000 Miracle Mile/Open Trot at Vernon Downs, accelerating once free in upper stretch to collar 3-4 harness racing favorite A Penny Earned in the last 40 yards.   Claude Huckabone, III settled Oh No Three O to the back of the compact field from the outset, taking no part in the pacesetting proceedings while A Penny Earned (Chris Lems) strode out to a clear lead via a blistering :26.2 first quarter. While Gimme the Cash (Jimmy Whittemore) made steady first-over gains to keep A Penny Earned from fully relaxing on the lead, Oh No Three O saved ground through a :58 middle half.   As the outer flow weakened off the far turn, Oh No Three O managed to gain third up the pegs and subsequently switched to the two-path just outside the eighth pole. He accelerated at once, mowing down A Penny Earned in deep stretch and sprinting off by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:53.4. Twice Too Nice (John MacDonald) was fully extended in her pursuit from the pocket, finishing another 3-3/4 lengths back in third.   Paul Long trains Oh No Three O, now a 30-time winner. The 1:53.4 mile was good for a seasonal mark and his fourth victory in 2016.   In the sub-featured event, a $5,500 Miracle Mile trot, My Lucky Word ($16.00) left from post 8 to secure a pocket trip behind Ozymandias (Roman Lopez) off a fast pace before pouncing in upper stretch for a 1:54.1 victory. Jimmy Whittemore drove the 4-year-old Lucky Chucky mare for owner Philip Hale and trainer David Dewhurst.   Live racing returns to Vernon Downs on Saturday (July 30) evening, with an 11-race card set to commence at 6:45 p.m. Eastern.   by James Witherite, Vernon Downs

Nichols, N.Y. -- Charlene Long's Oh No Three O ($6.60) took advantage of the prevalent stalker-closer bias that developed early on Saturday (June 4) night's 10-race harness racing card at Tioga Downs, striking from second-over to capture the featured $9,000 Open 2 Trot.   Jeffrey Long pointed the 9-year-old second-over on the clubhouse turn, following live cover provided by Write That Down (Dan Clements) into a stout pace set by Brandos Muscle Man (Mike Merton). As Write That Down engaged Brandos Muscle Man in a final-turn duel following three-quarters of a mile in 1:24.4, Oh No Three O swung three-wide, sprinting off in deep stretch to a two-length win. Pocket Trip (Fern Paquet, Jr.) emerged from heavy traffic to just take second in the last yards, while a game Brandos Muscle Man saved third following his pressured journey.   Paul Long trains Oh No Three O for owner-breeder Charlene Long.   Corey Braden led all drivers with a grand slam on the 10-race card, rallying from off the pace with Blueridge Empire ($18.20, 1:58.1) and Swan For Dee ($14.60, 1:59.3), pouncing from the pocket with Red Zeppelin ($31.80, 1:56), and threading through up the pegs with Sweetasmusic ($7.80, 1:57.3).   No one hit the 50¢ Pick 5, resulting in a $327.60 carryover in the wager which spans the first five races of Sunday (June 5) afternoon's card. Post time for the first of 13 races is 1:30 p.m. Eastern.   by James Witherite, Tioga Downs

Vernon, N.Y. -- Charlene Long's Oh No Three O ($6.70) assumed command early in Friday (November 6) evening's $7000 featured trot at Vernon Downs, never looking back en route to a 5-1/4 length harness racing victory.   The 8-year-old Ken Warkentin gelding worked to clear Twice Too Nice (John MacDonald) through a :28.2 initial quarter mile, subsequently working clear and forcing his six rivals to chase him through intermediate splits of :57.1 and 1:25.2. Nearly three lengths clear on approach to the top of the stretch, Oh No Three O drew clearer yet as Wings of Royalty (Chris Lems) pursued more intently, ultimately prevailing in 1:56 for his 25th career victory and second consecutive triumph. Wings of Royalty was a clear second, while Fox Valley Steffen (John Kokinos) rallied mildly to save third. Twice Too Nice broke stride upon cornering for home, checking in last of the septet after her early involvement.   Jeffrey Long drove Oh No Three O for trainer Paul Long.   Chris Lems led all drivers with three wins on the 11-race card, teaming up with Sweet Bettor ($10.20, 1:54.2), Pounce K ($5.00, 1:56.1), and Transit Hanover ($2.10, 1:57.1). Current leading driver John MacDonald's lone tally with Socks and Shuzy ($3.80, 1:57) however kept him six wins clear of Lems with five programs remaining in the 2015 season.   Live racing continues at Vernon Downs with an 11-race program on Saturday (November 7) evening. The first race is due off at 6:45 Eastern Standard Time.   by James Witherite, Vernon Downs
