In 2015 the Finnish breeder Saku Mikkola bought the mare Captivation in foal to Muscle Mass at the mixed sale in Harrisburg for $3,500. Back in Finland Captivation foaled a filly, who was called Mascate Match. She has turned out to be perhaps the best 3-year-old filly in Scandinavia so far. Saturday afternoon (June 29) Mascate Match easily won the filly division in the E3 final at Eskilstuna with a purse for the winner of $107,500. Trainer/driver Pekka Kopri controlled the race every step and Mascate Match was an easy winner of the 1-5/16 mile event in 1:56.2f (mile rate). This was her eight start and seventh win. The colt division went faster; in fact, the winner Aetos Kronos trotted to a world record. Aetos Kronos, sired by top French trotter Bold Eagle  and driven by Ôrjan Kihlström, fought bravely to beat the leader Bythebook (sired by Googoo Gaagaa) with Erik Adielsson to win in 1:55.3f (mile rate). While the mile rate is the same, as reported when Aetos Kronos won at Solvalla on May 26, in Europe records are measured by an average of 1,000 meters and Aetos Kronos lowered his own record from 1.11.9 to 1.11.8. Aetos Kronos is trained by Jerry Riordan and is the richest 3-year-old in Sweden so far with winnings of $270,000. by Karsten Bønsdorf, USTA Senior Newsroom Correspondent

Univers de Pan (FR), with harness racing trainer/driver Philippe Daugeard aboard, took the first over path to win today’s prestigious Gr. I Finlandia AJO at Helsinki. The 1609 meter autostart test rewarded €110,000 to the winner, he the 1.75/1 favorite on the Fintoto network.  Univers de Pan was timed in 1.10.7kr, second fastest in the rich history of the classic. Oasis Bi was second for Claes Svensson at 14.2/1 with Prussia third for Pietro Gubellini at 6.87/1 (she raced first over initially before being covered by the winner that raced in the death seat), this pair noses apart for second on the line and a length off Univers de Pan. Sweden’s Sanity ended fourth for Johnny Taker. The defending 2013 winner Nesta Effe finished sixth. Recently imported Blue Porsche was never a factor and broke in the stretch as did local favorite Air Gunner. Univers de Pan, pictured below, is a handsome, superbly gaited six year-old stallion by Kenya du Pont-Gypsilore-Pan de al Vaudere that is owned by Olivier Horvath. Today’s victory was his 18th in a career that now has produced lifetime earnings of €1,197,530. Sij. Sweden provides an opportunity for stayers to gain valuable UET Masters Series points at Orebro on Saturday night, also doubling as the last leg of the V75. Swedish Masterskap winner On Track Piraten off a 40 metre handicap to the front runners is the class runner in the race. The altered son of French stallion Kool du Caux, is a group one winner over a staying distance having won Germany's top race last year, the Grosser Preis Von Deutschland, at Hamburg over the 2720m distance. Hans R Stromberg's gelding is also the winner of the CL Mullers Memorial over 2640m at Jagersro and the Masterskap or Swedish Championships at Aby over the same distance, both races carrying group two status. His sire Kool de Caux was second in the Prix d'Amerique (2700m) but also had a good turn of speed with victories in the Group one Copenhagen Cup (2011m) and the Prix de France (2100m) in a stellar career in which he won 1.5 million euro and took a record of 1.09.8 (1.52.2MR). "The Pirate's" major opposition will come from the likes of last year's winner New Line a Danish-bred son of King Conch who was trained in the victory by Ake Svanstedt, who of course is now resident in the United States but has transferred the horse to son Anders' stable. New Line has true staying credentials, not only winning this event last year but placing in the Harper Hanovers Lopp, the staying test on Elitloppet weekend, and the Malmo Stads Pris, another 3km marathon. Another with claims is Mellby Viking, the royally bred son of Viking Kronos, who relishes the longer distance. He has a super French pedigree, being from the family of Romee, the foundation mare for a family which includes Prix du Cornulier winner Dream With Me, Indy de Vive, the sire of Ready Cash, Italian Derby winner Daguet Rapide - another highly successful sire - Lazio du Bourg, who won the Criterium des 3 Ans, and Giesolo de Lou, who won just shy of 2 million euro to name but a few. Mellby VIking is very lightly raced, with just 22 starts for 13 wins and two placings, but 3 of the wins are at this distance, and one suspects trainer Timo Nurmos has some choice French missions ahead for the six-year-old stayer who is off the 20m handicap. Porthos Amok is also one who could figure prominently. He is a son of Orlando Vici, a French sire whose son Un Mec D'Heripre is one of the rising stars in his native land. Orlando Vici has also Great Success in Sweden, with Pato a TravKriterium and TravDerby winner while Porthos Amok, himself, was second in last year's Swedish TravDerby. Another Swedish Travderby winner Beau Mec is actually in the race. Robert Bergh's a son of Jag de Bellouet, one of the true greats of the French scene, winning 4.4million euros on the back of victories in both the Prix d'Amerique and Prix Cornulier, the top races in France in harness and under saddle, and each race of the French triple crown. Beau Mec has won twice in France but apart from his Group one Travderby success, has largely been a bit part player since that win as a 4YO. Beautifully bred colt Orion Tilly heads the field for the Group Two Svampen Orebro, a relatively new addition to the Swedish trotting calendar which was first raced in 2011 as separate male and female races. This year's renewal of the 70,000euro sprint over the mile is a combined feature with a field of nine fronting up. Per Lennartsson's colt Orion Tilly, was a close second in Sweden's richest 2YO race, the Group One Uppfödningslöpningen and was the winner of the first two of his five starts including the Breeders Crown in Bergsaker. His sire is American National winner Clerk Magistrate while he is a close relation to one of Sweden's greatest horses, Victory Tilly. While he was not able to overhaul theLutfi Kolgjini's Onceforall Face in the Uppfödningslöpningen, it was super run by Orion Tilly who was closing fast on the tearaway leader and was within a length as the pair crossed the line eight lengths clear of the third horse and nearly a second quicker. His main competition could come from M.T.James a son of Quite Easey and out of a full sister to US stallion Muscle Memory, who won the Harry Zweig Memorial and was third in the 2005 Hambletonian and now stands in Sweden. M.T.James is the winner of four on the trot so far and though this race will be a step up for Ake Lindblom's colt, he has drawn the pole which will suit the horse who is a fast beginner and more than likely will set the pace. The third richest earner in the field is Gabriella Sisu who will have the advantage of ace driver Björn Goop in the bike for trainer Ari-Pekka Pakkanen. The daughter of Muscle Mass is drawn the inside of the second line and should get a nice drag up on the rail and will get a chance to test the two colts. She had her second win last start at this track in a fillies race. The other interesting runner is the Tomas Malmqvist-trained German horse Elton Attack, a son of Swedish stallion Gigant Neo, who won the Prix d'Amerique in a stellar career. He is out of a Dutch-bred mare of US parentage and broke in his last start Sweden after a placing in Berlin and a win in Denmark's Charlottenlund four starts back. With top driver Jorma Kontio in the bike he looks the best of the rest, who do not have a win among them.   SVAMPEN ÖREBRO Örebro 15/12/13 SE (G2) Int 1609m 2YO 70 000 1 M.T.James (2c Quite Easy - Peace Treaty) Ã…ke Lindblom Tr: Ã…ke Lindblom 2 Elton Attack (2c Gigant Neo - P'Bird Mon Amie) Dr: Jorma Kontio Tr: Tomas Malmqvist 3 Orion Tilly (2c Clerk Magistrate - Infra Tilly) Dr: Per Lennartsson Tr: Per Lennartsson 4 Bear My Crown (2f Dream Vacation - Bear My Royalty) Dr: Tony Wallin Tr: Pekka Korpi 5 Deneb Graff (2c Juliano Star - Flamenco Kemp ) Dr: Sebastian Hedblom Tr: Sebastian Hedblom 6 Jumpinjackofjoy (2c Enjoy Lavec - Ronja Win) Dr: Jörgen Sjunnesson Tr: Liselotte Nordkvist 7 Drive Launcher (2c Dad's Launcher - Joyride Launcher) Dr: Johan Sedström Tr: Johan Sedström 8 Run to the Hills (2g Couch Doctor - Samba Brick) Dr: Erik Svensson Tr: Erik Svensson 9 Gabriella Sisu (2f Muscle Mass - Armbro Begood) Dr: Björn Goop Tr: Ari-Pekka Pakkanen by David Sanders for Harnesslink.com

Two foreign-bred horses head the field for the group two E3 Revanshen at Romme, Sweden on Friday evening. Finnish Derby winner Express Duo will attempt to translate his compelling form in both Finland and Norway into a group two win in the tougher Swedish E3 series. Pekka Korpi's son of Express It has won 13 of his 22 starts in three countries, including the Finnish Breeders Crown title, and a third placing in Norway's international group one Ulf Thoresen Minneslop. He has competed three times already in Sweden, with a fifth placing in the E3 Sprint semifinal and then a win in the consolation race. He also ran second in a reasonably strong field at Jagersro, which had the likes of group one winners Rod Stewart (Ulf Thorensen Minnelop) and Mellby Briolet (E3 Fillies Langa) trailing him home. With more than 2 million SEK (234K euros) in the bank he has up to 10 times the earnings of most of these, and with a top time of (1.12.4kr, 1.56.3MR) he is a good second quicker than all but a couple. However he will face stiff competition from Denmark-bred colt Tumble Dust who is trained in Sweden by Tomas Malmqvist at Jagersro and was a group two winner as a 2YO in Sweden with a victory in the Svampen at Orebro last year. The son of US-domiciled Crazed has competed well as a 3YO at top level all over Scandinavia headed by a second in the group one UET 3YO Championship in Bjerke Norway and a third in the group one Danish Trav Kriterium at Charlottenlund. Tumble Dust has also competed with distinction in the major races on the E3 calendar, with a second in the E3 Langa at Eskilstuna and a third in the E3 Sprint final at Orebro, and with a record of 1.12.3 (1.56.2MR) has the fastest time in the field. The best of the local hopes is Daniel Reden's Call Me Keeper who has seven minor victories for 367,000 SEK and has a best time of 1.12.7 (1.57MR). One of those wins was in a semifinal of the Swedish Breeders Crown but he broke in the final. But perhaps the one who is bred to win this is the son of a former winner of this race Tigger, a fine racemare whose record of 15 wins includes the group one E3 Sprint. Her son B.B. Tigger, by the promising Swedish sire Going Kronos (who won the E3 Langa in a stellar career which earned the equivalent of a US 1million and a record of 1.52.2), is trained by Bjorn Goop. B.B Tigger has won two of his eight starts but made the final of the Swedish Breeders Crown where finished sixth, so has raced in top company. The Breeders Crown for 3YO males at Eskilstuna tonight throws up an interesting mix of form and class into the equation with several highly touted colts vying with some late bloomers showing good form. Travkompianet’s Rolling Stones started off his career with eight wins on the trot including the Group I E3 final but has been struggling of late and didn’t make the final of the biggest race of the season, the Trav-Kritierium. Stefan Hultiman’s son of Viking Kronos has the chance to atone here although he again did not flatter in the semifinal, running fourth. He would not need to improve too much to be a major factor in this race. Final Oak was third in the Trav-Kriterium, while AlkalizerAm and Boys Going In also earned a cheque in the Swedish Classic. But the form horse is Call Me Keeper who was very impressive in his semifinal where he recorded his seventh win in just nine race starts. Danel Reden’s son of Pine Chip showed he could make the step up to elite classes with that performance and a similar run here will put him right in contention. The ace pole is taken by Svante Bath’s Poochai who has won his two two races after a short break  after disappointing in the E3 final, which was his biggest test to date. He has the perfect draw to take advantage of his gate speed. Another who is stepping up in class but looked very good in his semifinal is Leif Witasp’s Broadway Hall colt Cool Keeper,  and he is another who could win this if he continues his improvement. Italian-bred Viking Kronos and his sons Going Kronos and Make It Happen  provide half of the field with two apiece, while Olimede is the only representative from the French sirelines in the field which otherwise comprise pure North American sirelines, which perhaps represent their early speed bias. There are two US based sires represented in Muscles Yankee and Broadway Hall. Royally bred mare She Loves You will be looking to win her second Finnish St Leger at Bjorneborg, Pori tonight. The daughter of French champion Love You and SJ’s Shad Roe, a sister to US stallion SJ’s Caviar, won the event in 2011 when trained by local Finnish trainer Janne Ranta-Krenkku. She returns tonight in the charge of Swedish trainer Jorgen Westholm and will have Seppo Markkula who  was in the bike when She Loves You won in 2011  and also this same race last year with Express Type. She Loves You, who was second in her year’s Finnish Trav Kreiterium, won the prestigious mares Lady Snarts Lopp on Elitlopp weekend last year and followed it up with fourth in the European Mares championship and a second in the Group I St Michel Ajo before transferring to Fabrice Solouy’s stable in France. But she ran foul of the French authorities’ strict gait rules, having a rich race taken off her for five rough steps in the straight. So she was transferred again back to the Swedish stable of Jorgen Westholm and been competing against the best horses in Sweden recently, so her form is probably better than it looks - her last start was against the likes of Nahar, Orechietti and Pastor Stpehen. She did have a win in August and has won 19 of her 47 starts for earnings over €300,000. But there are a large number of other good mares in this race with Venice and BWT High Voltage, who quinellaed last year’s Finnish Tammakriterium. Indeed Venice went on to place a gallant second against the males in the recent Finnish Trav-Derby and has had five wins and a second in her last seven starts, so will be favourite in this race. Silent Opal and back markers Liquorice Pipe, Blue River Pipe and Gary Hoist will also come in for support in the feature. FINNISH  ST.
