January 15, 2017 - Briac Dark (6m Prince Gede-Queen des Charmes) rallied three wide and then tracked outside of pacesetting Call Me Keeper (7m Pine Chip-Eliza Keeper) and Bjorn Goop, and with harness racing driver David Thomain’s urging the 23.1/1 outsider, trained by Thierry Duvaldestin for owner Guy Barou, rallied past the 3.4/1 leader to score by a length in the Grand Prix de Belgique (Gr. II, purse €120,000, 2850 meters, 17 starters). Call Me Keeper held bravely for second as stablemate Wild Honey (5f Cantab Hall-U Wanna Lindy) closed well for third, driven by Franck Nivard for trainer Daniel Reden and Stall Zet. The 2.4/1 harness racing favorite trailed for much of the 2175 meter test, long behind open lengths leader Vaillant Cash, before making a three-wide move to get into contention around the final bend. Once in range she darted to the pegs and got past Vaillant Cash (7m Offshore Dream-Kara du Rebon) on the line. Vaillant Cash was off at 9.6/1 odds and was reined by Clement Frecelle. II, monte, purse €120,000, 2700 meters, 11 starters) went to the 1.134kr winner, 9/1 odds Athena de Vandel (5f Prince Gede-Maelia de Vandel) that was teamed by Mathieu Abrivard for trainer Cedrik Megissier and Ecurie la Tour de Vandel. The winner rallied late and drew off easily with second going to Americaine (5f Chef du Chatelet-Marine Raudiere) for jockey Antoine Wiels and trainer J-P Marmion. Americaine raced on or near the front throughout and held gamely ahead of third finishing 2/1 Apprenti Sorcier (5m Love You-Queen of Viking) with Camille Levesque aboard for Mike Lenders training for Ecurie Pierre Levesque.
