The three-day Arqana-Trot Deauville Sale is complete and quite an event it was, particularly in the first and third sessions. The sale topper at 400,000 euro ($462,000US) was hip 377, the 2017 foaled filly by Charly du Noyer-Reethi Rah Jet, the dam (bred by Jean Etienne Dubois) having produced the champion Bold Eagle. This one and several other sales leaders appeared Friday. Another late sale top 20 was hip 436 Haut Brion (colt, 2017 by Bold Eagle-Christa Maris) at 240,000 euro ($277,000US). A great looker he is. The first two Arqana Trot Yearling Sale sessions at Deauville are complete. Nine yearlings have sold for 100,000 euro or more so far led by the colt Here I Am (Ready Cash-Come On Jet) that brought 320,000 euro from SAS Langlais Bloodstock as hip 93. He’s from a Goetmals Wood half-sister to the dam of the great Quaker Jet. Nine of the top 10 yearlings sold were sired by Ready Cash. Session one saw 81 lots sold from 126 presented (64.4%) for an average of 46,049 euro and the median was 28,000 euro. That session average was up 16.3% from prior year. Session two had 145 lots sold from 202 presented (71.8%), with an average of 12,714 euro and median was 11,000 euro. The session two average was down 2.8% from 2017. Sweden’s Trotting Derby (colt and filly divisions) are set for September 2 after the eliminations on August 22 at Jagersro. There were six filly elims and six for the colts with the top two finishers in each earning a spot in the final. The colts each raced 2640 meters autostart for 200,000SEK first money while the females raced 2140 meters autostart for 100,000SEK to the winners. Bugsy Malone (7g Ready Cash-Night Captain) easily took Sunday’s Trophee Vert event named the Grand Prix Ville Montier and raced at Montier en Der. Timed in 1.15.2kr on the grass, the 3/10 favorite recorded his seventh straight Trophee Vert victory and he now has 113 series points versus 74 for Bebert Express and 56 for Utile Lebel. As usual Yoann Lebourgeois teamed Bugsy for owner/trainer Philippe Allaire. The 6/1 Onceforall Face (7g Viking Kronos) was second for Franck Nivard and trainer/owner Jeppe Juel, also with a 25 meter penalty. Propulsion (7m Muscle Hill-Danae-Andover Hall) was up in the final stride to gain a scant nose score for Orjan Kihlstrom over Readly Express (6m Ready Cash-Caddie Dream-Viking Kronos) reined by Jorma Kontio in the Avy Stora Pris in Sweden. The winner, a Daniel Reden harness racing trainee for Stall Zet and bred in the USA by Caldwell and Bluestone Farm, recorded his sixth 2018 victory in 10 starts and 30th for the career in 61 starts for 20,105.317SEK earned. He gained 2,000,000SEK today. Reckless (8m Ready Cash-Haver-Supergill) rallied for third with Bjorn Goop driving. The total purse was 401,600 in euros. The 2.26/1 Propulsion was first away from post one in the 3140 meter autostart classic, a UET Masters Series event. He yielded quickly to Ready Express from post four and driver Kontio controlled the race thereafter until Propulsion began his charge as top of the lane. The pair battled to the wire with Kihlstom urging Propulsion to victory. Sunday’s 10th leg of the Trophee Vert Series was at Saint Jean de Monts, raced over 2625 meters distance handicapped, by 16 entrants for the total purse 45.000 euro. It was the 4/5 favorite Bugsy Malone (7g Ready Cash-Night Captain) prevailing for driver Yoann Lebourgeois and owner/trainer Philippe Allaire, timed in 1.16.1kr.  The winner overcame a 50 meter handicap to record his fifth victory in the series and 24th career win in 44 starts now for 679,310 euro earned. The victory moved Bugsy to the top in the series points standings with 79, versus Bebert Express’ 70 points. The point winner at series end earns 100,000 euro. The 8.6/1 Capital Charm (6g Password-Molly Charm) was second today for driver Eric Raffin, trainer Gregory Thorel and Ecurie Victoria Dreams. Jean Philippe Dubois bred this one.
