The results were positive as the sale averages showed increases from last year.

The median price listed at $6,583.33 per horse, and there were 68 horses entered in the sale. The average price per horse increased 30 percent over last year.

There were 15 less horses entered this year than in the 2004 sale, however, the gross return was up 13 percent with a sale total of $395,000.

Yearlings sired by Allie's Western topped the pacers; there were eight entries by Allie's Western that sold for a total of $58,500 with an average return of $7,312.50 per entry.

Trotters by Go Get Lost ruled the sale ring- 12 yearlings by the great Maryland sire brought a total of $72,700, averaging $6,058.33 per horse.

The sale topper, a filly by Malabar Man (hip number 38), brought $37,000.

Sales Manager Tom Winebrener was very pleased with the turnout of the sale.

"The sale demonstrated a strong interest in Maryland-bred horses," Winebrener mentioned. "The Maryland buyers showed confidence and there was a strong contingency of out-of-state buyers as well."

Despite the increased purse money in surrounding states, Maryland breeding is currently holding steady.

"To improve Maryland breeding there needs to be added opportunites such as extended gaming," noted Winebrener. "However, the results of this sale showed that there will be stability in Maryland breeding until such a time occurrs."

"The quality horses sold well," said Winebrener. "It is the obligation of the sale to get good prices for the quality horses and we achieved that."
