The recommendations from the HIP Review were the result of significant industry input and consultation, and provide an excellent roadmap for the evolution of the Horse Improvement Program. However, "the devil is in the details", and the ORC is committed to ensuring an on- going dialogue with industry to develop the details surrounding the implementation of the significant changes recommended in the Review.

Under the HIP Rules of Administration, industry input is provided by breed specific advisory groups. The groups are tasked to review Program performance on an annual basis, and provide recommendations to the Program Administrator on revisions or changes to Program elements to meet the goals and objectives of the Program.

For each sector - Thoroughbred and Standardbred - the Advisory Groups will be made up of representation from the industry, as follows: Standardbred Advisory Group Reps Thoroughbred Advisory Group Reps Standardbred Breeders of Ontario 3 CTHS - ON Division 3 OHHA 2 HBPA 2 Other Horsepeoples Associations 1 Racetrack Operators reps 2 Standardbred Horse Owners Panel 1 Industry Member "At Large" 4 Standardbred Canada 1 TOTAL 11 Racetrack Operators 2 Industry Member "At Large" 4 TOTAL 14.

Scheduled meeting dates: Standardbred Advisory Group November 25, 2008 Thoroughbred Advisory Group December 2, 2008 While the associations and the racetracks will be appointing individuals to represent their organizations, the ORC is also calling on interested people from the horse racing community to nominate themselves to serve as an "Industry Member At Large".

The ORC is inviting individuals with broad industry experience to apply. Candidates for the Industry Members "At Large" will be selected based on a number of factors, including:

 Broad industry experience on multi levels  Credibility within the Industry  Influence and recognition in the industry  Outside expertise useful to the process  Fit in the final make-up of the working group Individuals applying are asked to send their personal profiles, including a resume outlining their affiliations, experience with similar initiatives and a general profile of their role(s) within the industry to the Ontario Racing Commission by November 20, 2008 as follows:

By Fax: (416) 213-7827 By Email: sandy.anthony@ontarioracingcommission.ca Similarly, associations are asked to supply the names and contact information for their representatives. The Advisory Group members are expected to commit to this endeavour for a period of two (2) months, although this group may be used on an ad hoc basis throughout the year. It is anticipated that there will be one or two meetings scheduled from late November 2008 to early January 2009.

We thank you in advance for your interest and look forward to receiving your nomination. Contact: Wendy Hoogeveen Director, Industry Development and Support: wendy.hoogeveen@ontarioracingcommission.ca
