After a world record breaking performance in last Tuesday’s New Zealand Cup, Changeover was issued with an invitation to the Miracle Mile, however, a decision hadn’t been made as to whether it could be accepted or not.
Three days later, he then finished a gallant third to Auckland Reactor in the NZ Free-For-All. Small confirmed this afternoon that Changeover will take his place in Australasia’s premier sprint on Friday week.
"It was a very hard decision to make," he said.
"When summing up the situation, there wasn’t that many options over here (New Zealand) for him, so we decided to accept the invitation.
"The Miracle Mile is a prestigious race and is worth half-a-million dollars, so it is definitely worth pursuing."
Having contested a Miracle Mile in 2004 with another champion pacer, Elsu, Small believes a good barrier is essential towards claiming victory in the elite sprint.
"I’ve gone back through videos of previous Miracle Miles and if you draw well, you are definitely at an advantage," he said.
"With such a strong field, a good barrier is essential in increasing your chances of winning the race."
