As a three-year-old Jane Ellen was a star winning three Oaks (NSW, Victoria and WA) and after winning the Blue Bonnet as a two-year-old she was never beaten by a horse of her own sex to the day she retired from racing at age five courtesy of a tendon injury.

Jane Ellen was prepared by the Dornaufs during her juvenile seasons and the filly was partnered to many of her wins by Tony Petersen who was one of Tasmania's best and ranked in the top 10 in Australia in his prime.

In Victoria she was prepared by the late Vin Knight who shared 21 of her wins.

The mare was an outstanding racehorse winning 30 times with 10 minor placings from 50 starts for $375,000 in prizemoney.

Her best mile rate was 1.57.4 recorded in winning the paleface Adios Sprint at Harold Park in Sydney in 1990.

At three years she clocked a best mile rate of 1.57.7 and she went two minutes as a two-year-old.

At stud she only produced three to race with her first, Golden Magic (by Sokys Atom) winning 15 and placed 13 times from only 33 starts for almost $120,000 in stakes while in the care of tool Victorian trainer John Justice.

Golden Magic placed second in the 2000 Edgar Tatlow final at two and next season placed in a Victoria Derby heat behind eventual Derby winner Rare Gem.

Unfortunately Golden Magic broke down towards the end of his four-year-old season when he finished just out of a place in the 4 & 5YO Championship at Moonee Valley.

Jane Ellen's only filly foal Golden Jeannie won five but was placed 15 times from 75 and her last start was in a trotting race.

Sounds Of Thunder, foaled in 2002, has won three and has notched as many minor placings from 20 starts.
