Chris Lang started the day, when his classy squaregaiter Skyvalley toyed with his rivals in the On The Attack Trotters Handicap for T1 or better class over 2690 metres.
Taking over from the 20 metre mark shortly after the start, Skyvalley (Muscles Yankee/Chiola's Lass) had nothing more than a "stroll in the park" to score from Prettylilangeleyes and Flash Teena in a track record 2-03.1.
VETERAN RETURNS
Shepparton trainer Eddie Walsh a major player in the Showgrounds era, was successful with the 5-Y-0 Megamind/Gold Current gelding Nosy Mac in the Heywoods Shepparton Motor Panels Vicbred Pace for C0 class over 2190 metres, returning a 2-02.9 rate.
Driven by Chris Alford, Nosy Mac was trapped leading the outside division until the bell when Daryl Douglas sent the favourite Fella From Locksley from the John Nissen stable forward from one/one to park outside the pacemaker Truckies Art for the final circuit.
Although under pressure to keep in touch, Nosy Mac when taken three wide on the final bend, kept on coming in the straight to wear down Fellafrom Locksley in the last couple of bounds, with Truckies Art third.
CLEVERLY NAMED WINNER
Locksley's John Nissen had better luck with the talented 5-Y-0 Beach Towel/Wonder Gold gelding Wipem Dry in the Camcracker Pace for C5 & C6 class over 2190 metres.
Easing three wide from three back in the running line at the bell to commence a forward move, Wipem Dry was accomodated by Brikante coming out ahead of him and gained a lovely three wide trail into the race.
Taken wide on straightening, Wipem Dry finished best to score from Brikante and The Jamaican in a 1-58 mile rate on reaching the wire.
MADE HIS DAY
Lancaster trainer Graham Lyon combined with Nathan Jack to land the By Xample Pacers Handicap for C1 or better class over 2190 metres with Day In Lieu, a Kiwi bred 5-Y-0 Day In A Life/Meril Franco gelding.
Settling four back in the moving line from the 10 metre mark, Day In Lieu trailed home the favourite Blitzen Fella in the last lap and when taken wide on turning, finished his race off nicely in 2-03 to score from Waiona and Roslei Don.
BEST EVER
Tongala's Gary Merkel has the Fake Left/Narryna Way mare Madam Narryna racing in the best form of her career and greeted the judge in the Neatline Homes Pace for C3 & C4 class over 2190 metres thanks to what was the "drive of the day" by Daryl Douglas.
Shuffled to four back along the markers from an inside second line draw, Madam Narryna moved to be on the back of the leader Pacey Miss in the last lap, only to be caught up in traffic when the pacemaker gave ground.
Extricated away from the inside, Madam Narryna was still held up with a wall of horses ahead of her, but when a gap appeared near the inside halfway up the running, she sprinted through the opening to gain the day in advance of Leica Jet and Arden Bannister in a best ever 1-58.6.
FIRST UP VICTORY
Campbells Forest part-owner/trainer Greg Ryan's 4-Y-0 The Wrath Of Pan/Smooth Trip mare Panslilsweetheart snared the Allamerican Theory Vicbred Pace for C0 class over 2190 metres in an easy 2-01.1.
Having her first outing since May, Panslilsweetheart with Daniel Jack in the sulky, led throughout from gate two in defeating Scatter which trailed to give the Jack brothers (Daniel & Nathan) the quinella, with Lilbitabrownsuger third after racing in the open.
