A mare by Admiral Halsey, Admiral's Astra didn't win a race in 16 starts for Prendergast during the 1990s but her first foal Shamrock Girl won six. Shamrock Girl, who was successful second time to the races, also won once at Forbury Park.

The second foal of Admiral's Astra, Stray Shot Shamrock, was the winner of one for Prendergast and is now trained at Mosgiel by Alex Cayford.

From the outside of the second line tonight, Lady Shamrock was back early before getting a cart up in the three wide line. This took her to the parked position 900m from home, outside favourite Cool Fella.

After such a tough run, Lady Shamrock would have been forgiven for fading in the straight but instead she quickly put paid to the chances of Cool Fella on the turn and didn't look in any danger of defeat from then on.

After an unsuccessful trip to Auckland, Comebackmach returned to racing on left-handed tracks, beginning with Forbury Park tonight. In a standing start 2700m contest, he was in front after 300m and too strong in the straight.

It was his first win since March and co-trainer and driver Paul Court's second of the night.

Southland trainer Tony Barron was represented tonight at Forbury Park by Mossdale Allan and at Alexandra Park by Magnum Opus but minor placings was as good as they could do. Mossdale Allan finished second and Magnum Opus third.

Mossdale Allan led at Forbury Park but in the trail was Mark Jones driving Daisy Dundee for his former boss Bruce Negus. Once in the straight, the old firm took control and Daisy Dundee finished too powerfully for the remainder.
