A late closing series for 3 yr old colts and geldings, who were non-winners of 2 races or $10,000. lifetime as of March 31, 2009 is the condition on the series. It carries a purse of $20,000. per division and since it isn't restricted to Ontario Breds, the high priced American Bred colts showed up in droves. Yes the entry box was full of Western Ideal's, Artiscape's and Art Major colts but it was only one little lonely, I Am A Fool, colt that made it to the winners circle.

Foolish Justice laid off the early pace while long shots Imbadimnationwide (18-1) and Card Rustler (29-1) set up the early race fractions, scorching past mile markers in 27.3, 55.4, and 1:24.2.

Foolish Justice who was at one point down by 11 lengths at the half and forced to go three wide approaching the ¾'s to bypass the stalling cover in front of him was just getting into gear when out of the two hole right in front of him pops Jody Jamieson and Imbadimnationwide and like a NFL line backer out of breath on the third down, Jamieson and his charge didn't advance two steps forward on the leader and naturally brought Foolish Justice's momentum to a grinding halt once again in the mile.

Talented driver Randy Waples obviously out for the victory didn't hesitate to flip Foolish Justice three wide at the head of the long Mohawk stretch and chase down the race leader to win going away by 2 and half lengths in 1:52.4 for trainer Mark Austin and owner Daniel Smith of London Ontario.

Ideal Race and Electric Energy, both sons of Western Terror and both Ontario Bred and both owned by Bulletproof Stables and both trained by Tracy Brainard and both driven by Mark McDonald, romped in their respective divisions. Ideal Race win in 1:52.4 and Electric Energy stole his race in a pedestrian time of 1:55.1.

The Summertime Series continues next week with second leg action.
