Now most racetracks would be ecstatic about giving away $2,135,174. in purse structure and classify it as an incredible feat and assume the thirsty gambler's pallet would be content but not at WEG. No sir the Kegs been tapped and they aren't going to stop till everyone's glass has been filled.
Yes sir WEG being the spectacular Entertainment Group they are decided to frost the mugs for the average Joe, the guy that races at their track week in and week out and write a Preferred Trot carrying a purse of $40,000. and an Open Pace going postward for $50,000 that along with four more high end condition races on the 13 race card, spell spectacular in my books.
Yes it seems they're printing money down at Mohawk and aren't happy unless they're giving it away by the bag full.
The stakes actions starts in the 2nd race the CBC final for 3 yr old pacing fillies. This race looks like it will be a cake-walk for the Grinfromeartoear daughter, Not Enough.
Although she did get beat last week in her elimination race by Windsong Filou (the Carl Jamieson trained and Keith Oliver driven powerhouse) like the rest of Tracey Brainard's stock Not Enough seemed to race a little flat, as if a bug or virus was going through Brainard's stable. But after watching --If I Can Dream (Western Hanover) devastate a field of solid colts yesterday at the Meadows in his Adios elimination, pacing away from the field in 1:49.4. I think Not Enough will return to her winning ways. She'll go off at 6-5, it's easy money, take it and start the night off right.
In the CBC filly trot, Elusive Desire, lays over the field and should add another $77,000 to her owners ban account. The Angus Hall filly showed her heels to the competition last week dusting them in 1:55.4 taking down her 4th season win and pushing her cash totals to $158,891 for the season and $395904 lifetime. PC Wellwood Enterprises, Charles Armstrong and Robert Fasken have to be smiling with numbers like that to wake up to.
Jojo Bingbing an Armbro Nash filly who won the other elimination from last week starts beside Elusive Desire in the three hole so an obvious exactor bet would be the 2-3 flat ticket.
In the CBC 3 yr old colt trot, the ever consistent and gutsy trotter Equity, (Kadabra) looks to the standout in here. He's on a five race win streak dating back to June 11th and has won seven of nine so far this year and looks like he'll repeat in her tonight coming off his 1:55 win last week. Jack Moiseyev has driven Equity for his last three wins and he's at the controls tonight so I'd say he's got everything going for him how can he loose?
The colts only thrown in one bad race since he started racing this year and you can't even really call it a bad effort because he had the nine hole, was taken to the back of the field and then fell victim to a slow half but still trotted home in 27.2 to get 6th money. We all know that's not to rewarding but at least the big colt put on a show for our money.
Charalambos Christoforou and Banjo Farms bred and own the winner of $152,880 who will have to contend with I Won't Dance, an Angus Hall gelding who is trained by Per Henriksen who's horses are racing really sharp right now. His 2 yr old colt trotter Magic Fruit came within inches of nailing the sensational Ja El Express in a Gold final Thursday night at Mohawk. Look Out!!!
Stonebridge Terror (Western Terror), Fast Play (fast Play) and Ok Boromir (No Pan Intended) are the favorites in the CBC colt pace and should be. But I'm going to play a colt with big odds, that has been running into dead switches and tough racing all season long. He doesn't have a lot of money earned and hasn't got the mark of 1:50, yet, but I think he's a little better than he's shown and as they say every dog has their day right?
I'm going to play Strand Hanover in here. He's got a mark of :52.4 taken July 13/09 with a last quarter in 27.3. Last week he was locked in behind the race, place horse, Ok Boromir and pined against the pylons by Stonebridge Terror. He never had a chance to get any momentum up but finished right with the race winner beaten a length pacing home in 27.3. A tic of a second faster than the race winner Stonebridge Terror.
We have a change of driver tonight Yannic Gingras, and Strand Hanover leaves from the two hole. Stonebridge Terror has the rail and if Gingras uses this colts gate speed Saftic will likely be content to take the trip in behind. Some soft first half fractions and he might just get the job done with a big payoff at the end for the little guy in the grandstand.
Strand Hanover is a son of Modern Art and was bred by the best, Hanover Shoe Farms and was purchased by his trainer Scott McEneny at Harrisburg for $52,000 American for his owners Joe Tinelli, Steven Lancaster, and Michelle McEneny.
McEneny knows what a good horse looks like, he's trained some of the best in the world, one you might recognize the name of is Bettors Delight. His 1.7 million dollar winning daughter, is in the Roses are Red tonight and will likely go off as the race favourite her name you ask ? Southwind Tempo.
The Maple Leaf Trot, goes to Lucky Jim, hands down. He's a power house looking to stretch his win streak.
The Roses are Red. Southwind Tempo should race better back on a seven day rotation she's the class of the field and seems to come to life when the big cash is on the line.
In the Armbro Flight it looks like Buck I St Pat gets all the glory.
First Race post time is 07:30 PM Eastern. Good Luck and Good gambling and remember you always win when you lose with a smile.
Robert Leatham.
