This has been a stellar summer at Mohawk, with highlights including Well Said’s $1.5 million victory in the June 27 Pepsi North America Cup in the new stakes and track record time of 1:48.1; Muscle Hill’s effortless three-and-a-half length victory over Explosive Matter in the $1 million Canadian Trotting Classic, his 17th consecutive win; Sportswriter’s dominance in the ranks of the two-year-old pacing colts, including a triumph in the $1 million Metro Pace in a new world record time of 1:49.2, as part of a six-race unbeaten streak all executed at Mohawk; Dreamfair Eternal’s shattering of the stakes and track record as she paced home in 1:49.2 in the Roses Are Red final; and hometown favourite, San Pail’s, exceptionally popular win in the $720,500 Maple Leaf Trot in July, defeating such heavy hitters as last year’s winner, Arch Madness, and top older trotter Lucky Jim.

Another standout was trotter Elusive Desire, Mike Keeling’s three-year-old Angus Hall filly who captured the SBOA Stakes, the Canadian Breeders’ Championships, and the Simcoe Stakes as well as an Ontario Sires Stakes Gold final. She and her Ontario-based rival, Raising Rachel, both also won eliminations for the prestigious Hambletonian Oaks, and were third and second, respectively, in the final, beaten by mere millimeters in a photo.

Not Enough emerged as the brightest star in an amazing flotilla of three-year-old pacing fillies emanating from Bulletproof Enterprises and the shedrow of Tracy Brainard. Among her Mohawk successes were the $680,000 Fan Hanover on June 27 and the $181,877 Canadian Breeders’ Championships on July 25.

Driver Sylvain Filion reached a milestone of 6000 career wins on May 23 at Mohawk, behind Mr Saratoga, and we celebrated the career of legendary linesman, John Campbell, on September 19, as he is poised to be inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame.

In June, Mohawk proudly unveiled a tribute to Somebeachsomewhere, who captured the 2008 Pepsi North America Cup on his way to proving himself the most talented sophomore pacer of a generation. The interactive wall display includes videos of all of the Nova Scotia-owned colt’s greatest races.

Although Mohawk’s racing season has concluded, the harness racing action never stops. Please join us as the Woodbine winter season kicks off on Thursday night in Rexdale, Ontario.
