Harness racing fans to select sports icon

Who is Tasmania's top sports icon? Many of Tasmania's famous sporting identities have had a great association with racing and in particular harness racing. So what better way for harness racing to revisit that association than by putting to a vote just who is Tasmania's top sporting icon from the past five decades, according to the general public.

tasracing.com.au, in conjunction with the Tasmanian Pacing Club, has provided a list of 24 Tasmanian sporting heroes who will be in the running to be named in Tasmania's top three sports people.

Stars from a multitude of sports including cricket, football, rowing, basketball, boxing, golf, diving, cycling and kayaking make up an initial list of 24 from which the top three will be named and then one crowned the best at the launch of the V75 Tasmanian Harness Carnival at Wrest Point Hotel Casino in Hobart on December 7.

Boony,the Punter And David Forster. Aussie legends in their own right. 2 of them have had harness horses named after them. Born Again Boony who currently races in SA (great horse to follw) and David Forster who had won a few races in NSW. Both were above average types. I'll put a vote in for both as I admired the great axeman David Forster and Boony ,52 cans of beer on the flight to the ashes ,how on earth did he walk of plain at Heaththrow.
