The first race was won by D.T. The fourth race was the New England Amateur Drivers Club race made up of $3000 claimers in post positions 1-6 and $5000 claimers in post positions 7-8. The # 8 position was that of the eventual winner Andrew Harrington, driving Juarez and coming from the back of the pack after the half went in 1:00.1 to pass the field one by one which requiired a four wide move around the far turn to chase down the leader in the stretch and draw away by a length and a half in a winning time of 2:01.1.
This was nineteen year old Harrington`s first win in nineteen starts, that goes along with three seconds and one third, as he and Juarez paid $9.60 to win, the exacta 8/6 paid $41.60; the trifecta 8/6/1 paid $151.80 and the superfecta 8/6/1/2 paid a whopping $1311.20.
When Harrington returned to the paddock, he was congratulated on his victory by all the drivers and just before I took his picture they drenched him with a bucket of water and instead of being upset he was ecstatic becuse he had finally cracked the win column. The horse is trained by John Nason and owned by Andrew Harrington of Freedom, NH, K. R. Franklin of Greenfield, MA and R.M. Fielding of Lawrence, MA.
The sixth race was won by Brad Irvine driving Annual Dues for owner/ trainer Kathy La Freniere of Winchendon, MA in a time of 2:00.3 and paying $3.00 and then came right back to win the second half of the double in the seventh race aboard Hezaumpn Bluegrass in a time of 2:00.2 paying $4.60 with the late double 3/ 7 paying $13.40
It was the first time on a seven race carded program that a driver won the first double and another driver won the second double and another driver was winning his first pair-mutuel race.
