It weaves together the nostalgia, humor and excitement of his life on Mitchell Farms, from his boyhood days through his adult years as an experienced veterinarian.
Dr. Marc Mitchell was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1966. At the age of six, he and his brother Doug became fullfledged farm boys when his parents moved to New Hampshire. He graduated from Sanborn Regional High School, received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire and culminated his post graduate education at the Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine. He is now a practicing veterinarian in his small animal hospital in Brentwood, New Hampshire.
Recently published, Hoofprints In The Sand is a realistic portrayal of his farm, family and the horses that he trained, treated and loved. It tells the stories of their harness racing wins and losses, the efforts required to keep their horses healthy and strong, and the difficult decisions they had to make too often when things went wrong. It is written in a straight forward yet dramatic style that makes this 300 page book a riveting read.
Excerpt from chapter four Mohawk Knight
"The soothing sound of twenty-two horses quietly munching on their morning grain filled the spacious barn. It was the most peaceful time of the day. The calm before the chaos. With three horses racing that night and two having raced the previous evening, that left about twelve racehorses that needed to go out and jog. The others were either broodmares, horses on the injured reserve, or boarders.Dr. Mitchell is available for interviews and book signings. For an appointment please contact Amy Lightizer at amyagent@comcast.net or Dr. Mitchell directly at drmarc@comcast.net -- phone: 603-642-8387.The deep gutteral grumblings of Mohawk Knight broke the serenity. He was finished eating and wanted out. Might as well get him done first and get him out of the way. He was one tough son of a bitch."
