I just looked up his family in the Black Book and it's not the strongest family, i also just watched his races and he was a nice fluent going horse it will be interesting to see if he does go to Peppertree farm and what price they put on him. I would also like to know how big the horse is so if anyone out there knows please drop me a line.

Hi Mango.......I can't see how Sportswriter couldn't be a top stallion on both hemispheres.He has everything you would want in a stallion.Two year old speed{world record holder 49.3}.I also believe he would have paced in 47 and change as a three year old this year if he wouldn't have gotten injured......Sportswriter like I said before is from one of the best modern maternal families in the sport today {Miss Duvall} and stallion's that are from the MissDuvall family are absolute money like.....Art Major,Real Artist,Life Sign and Western Ideal.You actually have a stallion from this family down under that has done well {Sands A Flyin}......What I also like about Sportswriter is out of all the great son's of Artsplace he looked and went the most like the oldman.Sportswriter and Artsplace were mirror images of each other.......Mango I know you fellas down under never had the privelege of having Artsplace service any of your mares but Sportswiter is as close as your going to get to his dad.......I really believe that Sportswriter has the potential to become a Super sire and put a big stamp on the future of the breed and if his first crop stud fee is not overly inflated take advantage of this guy.....DO NOT MISS THE BOAT!!!!!

Will he get 3yold of the year in the US?

With all the Artsplace stallions down here doing a good job such as Art Major, Grinfromeartoear and Modern Art do you think he will be able to make an impact as good as them. Also i know they all raced in different years but as race horses and type how would you rate them in order and your reason why. We get race dvds but they only show you what they want you to see so it would be good to get your point of view as you probably watched each and everyone of there races. Would also like to know the size of Sportswriter if you know. And hows your Mach 3 2yo filly going. And if anyone else would like to answer these questions feel free.

Hi Mango,
I don't tend to worry a whole lot about immediate maternal families with sires. I care about their sireline & their racetrack performance the most, though in this case I do like it that he is from a Jate Lobell mare, my reasoning being that sons of Artsplace and sons of Jate Lobell have both proven very successful in the Southern Hemisphere. It can't hurt anyway. From there it's their gait, their conformation etc. This colt just ticks all the boxes for me. He'll stand for $6000 + GST I believe. Don't know exactly how big he is...but taking a shot I'd say 15.2 or thereabouts. As Chag suggests...DON'T MISS THE BOAT!.

Might be some food for though in this it appear that they were going to race this horse after a short let up until they were propositioned by Pepper Tree. It has that Sharks Gesture feel about it that he might be coming down for a all expenses paid holiday and depending on his demand he might hit the track next session. We could be the only ones with his progeny on the ground for some time while their sire tear's it up on the track (no pun intended) in Canada & Us. He's coming into a fairly open marked there are some nice stallions heading down this season and with his status as a top liner straight of the track might drag him over the line in a few decisions in where to send mares there is no Art Major or Mach Three fever to contend with like Shark had to.

HI Mango.......I believe Sportswriter will be a better sire then Grinfromeartoear and heads and above better then Modern Art.I also think he will be neck and neck with Art Major....Trust me Mango this guy is going to be a hell of a sire.......Art Major was a phemominal talent with with big time speed.He had big problems with tying up though.I don't know how that has effected his offspring.....Grinfromeartoear was an absolute warrior who stayed relitivly sound.He wasn't a big horse but very blocky and powerful like Artsplace and Sportswriter.....I've seen Modern Art numerous times at Seelster farms.He took more after the Western Hanover/No Nukes traits.A big dark rugged looking horse with big rough hocks.Modern Art is an OK stallion for Ontario but not what you would call a grand circuit type stallion...But who knows Mango?I can only talk from an NA perspective.Maybe these sons of Artsplace will react differently to your Globe Derby or Jack Potts/Direct lines.Its something we have to take into consideration........As for Sportswriters size I am not sure exactly but I would agree with Truth In Advertising's guess at a little over 15 hands.He is not a big colt but he is built like an absolute BULL!! I also agree that I like the Jate Lobell factor in there as well.........My Mach Three filly is close to qualifying.She is a little behind schedule do to the fact that she battled a deep lung infection that just wouldn't go away.But she's back at 100% and training very good.....Thanks for asking. Mango one more thing.I'm not saying look at the immediate maternal family in a sire in today's modern breed.I'm saying look at the maternal line as a whole.The top stallions in NA are from the dominate maternal lines.The breed has changed dramatically since the 80's and 90's...Rock nRoll Hanover{Fanny Skinner} Western Terror {Medio} Art Major {Miss Duvall}.......Coincidence?? I would say not!!!!

Thanks everyone for your comments it's much appreciated. I recieved an e-mail today from the states and i was told Sportswriter is 15.3 but after watching his races he looks like Chag said built like a bull and not much over 15h it would be good if someone could set the record straight. And Nat i watched the interview on Mohawk race track i think it was called when they spoke to Casie Colman and she said he only needs 6wks off then 2 months work and he could be back at the races but a stud in n.s.w had approached them about standing him, casie also said he would of missed all the big races including the breeders crown. As for you mentioning Shark Gesture how good is he, i hope the fortunate people who went there have fun with his progeny.
