CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Sock It Away turned in the biggest performance of the night and his driver dominated the rest of the harness racing program Saturday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Corey MacPherson made five trips to the winner's circle on the Saturday card including a devastating 1:53.2 victory in the $3,000 Preferred pace with Sock It Away. The Kevin Maclean trained son of Pang Shui was sent to the lead by MacPherson as the post time favourite and delivered splits of 28, 56.2 and 1:24.3 before stopping the clock in 1:53.2 for a new career best time. Euchred (Driven by Walter Cheverie) was second while Czar Seelster (Mike McGuigan) was third.
The win was number 29 for Sock It Away, who boosted his career bankroll to over $127,000 for owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford.
MacPherson started the night off with an early double as Knockout Punch captured the opener in 1:59.1 for trainer Kevin Gillis of Charlottetown, then Painted Desert was a winner in 1:59.2 for trainer Kerry Taylor of Stratford.
Hysteria delivered win number three for the Cornwall driver as he sizzled the historic oval in 1:54.2 from the Michael Gallant stable, then the Stephen Gass trained Screen Test captured the $2,700 Preferred 2 pace in line to MacPherson in 1:55.4.
Tempo Seelster won the Clan MacPhail Reunion 2019 pace with Ken Murphy stopping the clock in 1:56.1 for trainer Gary Poulton of Charlottetown.
Trainer Gillis had two wins on the card as he won the opener and then the finale with JK Express (Cheverie) in 2:00.1.
