Two $25,000 finals of the classic harness racing two year old feature "The Lombo" were held at a gigantic Shepparton fixture on Saturday January 21, one for fillies and one for colts & geldings over 1690 metres.

It was a local victory in the Fillies Final, when Magic Moment Lombo, a daughter of Lombo Pocket Watch and Lady Julie Lombo trained and driven by Stephen (Boyo) Boyington greeted the judge in a rate of 1-59.7.

Surprisingly restrained from outside the front row to be three wide before pressing forward to take over at the bell from Morcheeba Bromac (gate four) which had crossed the leader out of the gate Money Time Milly (gate five), Magic Moment Lombo showed plenty of quality over the concluding stages to score from More Than Alright (three wide trail last lap) which was lucky to avoid Cullen Time ahead of her which galloped approaching the home turn, with Moata running on late for third for mid-field.

The Colts & Geldings Final went the way of another local in Orrvale trainer Steven Duffy's Mcardle/Nuclearaccelerator gelding Almost An Eagle with Greg Sugars in the sulky.

Finding the front from gate four shortly after the start when Die Tryin (gate two) galloped, Almost An Eagle coasted at the head of affairs to score by a 19.8 metre margin in advance of Iron Ore Lombo (one/two at bell after racing roughly one/one entering the straight on the first occasion). Illawong Spitfire (one/one at bell) finished third. The mile rate 1-58.8.

Magic Moment Lombo was bred by Lombo Standardbreds as the name suggests, while Redbank Lodge Standardbreds were the breeder of Almost An Eagle.

For a full summary of the night's highlights which featured three heats of the Trotters Inter Dominion Series and the Shepparton Gold Cup.
