$5,000 Pick 4 Wagering

Hoosier Park Racing & Casino will host the second round of the guaranteed $5,000 Pick 4 Wednesday, May 25. The harness racing promotion is part of the U. S. Trotting Association's Strategic Wagering program, which now includes specialty wagers at 10 racetracks across the United States.

The $5,000 Pick 4 kicked off Wednesday, May 18 with a warm reception from racing enthusiasts. The total pool for the wager pulled in $10,398.14. A total of 54 winning tickets were sold, paying a reward of $151.00. The Kentucky Hub had the most winning tickets for the Pick 4 with 13 of the 54 sold through that system.

The guaranteed $5,000 Pick 4 wager will be held four consecutive Wednesdays through June 8. The wager is available on races three through six on the program at Hoosier Park, which begins at 5:30 p.m. EST.

Hoosier Park is also teaming up with the Indiana Standardbred Association and the U.S. Trotting Association on an inflated Superfecta wager for the 18th edition of the $200,000 Dan Patch Invitational Saturday, May 28. The race, which always attracts some of the nation’s best older pacers, will feature a $20,000 guaranteed Superfecta on the event. The Dan Patch race will be slated as the 12th race on the 14-race program with an approximate post time of 9:30 p.m. EST. The first race of the night will go to post at 5:30 p.m. and the card will also include several divisions of the Indiana Sires Stakes, pushing purses for the night well over the $500,000 mark.

Expected to start in this year’s Dan Patch Invitational is the phenom St Elmo Hero. The five-year-old gelding took the harness racing world by storm last year, winning all 19 of his races. The Indiana-sired son of Western Hero returned to the track this season, extending his undefeated streak to 25 before getting nipped at the wire by a nose at Woodbine in mid April. St Elmo Hero now has 26 career wins in 29 career starts and his quickest time of 1:49.1 was taken earlier this year at The Meadowlands in the $65,000 Complex Final.

Joining St Elmo Hero on the list of potential starters includes Won The West, 2008 winner of the Dan Patch, Lisagain, River Shark, Hypnotic Blue Chip, Schoolkids, Foreign Officer, Vintage Master, and Golden Receiver. Also a likely starter is Hoosier Park’s own Allthatgltrsisgold, who is a perfect three for three over the Anderson, Ind. track this year.
