In a surprise for regular race goers and Christmas Function guests, this Saturday night (December 10) Albion Park Raceway will play host to harness racing immortal and the pacing gait's greatest ever stakes earner Blacks A Fake when he tunes up for the SEW Eurodrive Victoria Cup in the Harness Portal Lord Mayor's Cup.

The 2138 metre event brings together Queensland's best available free for all and up and coming talent.

Blackie as is most regularly the case in local open events will start from the outside of the back row in the preferential barrier draw based on dollars won in the last six starts mode of commencement.

Best served by the draw are the Catriona Martin trained ½ brothers BeDiligent and TipYourHat. Both are out of broodmare gem Glammalot, the respective D M Dilinger and Village Jasper geldings have drawn beside one another in saddlecloths 4 and 5, however they will both move in one with the withdrawal of the emergency.

Both have first-rate recent form on the board with TipYourHat smashing the 2138 metre standing start track record two starts ago (1.57.2 off 30m), while Be Diligent has two wins and a second from his five starts since resuming from a break.

Individually they are known to set a solid tempo in a race and will have the opportunity to do so if gun starters Beef City Beauand Fox Valley Appeal decide to hand up the lead and follow the speed.

The speed factor will no doubt bring Blackie right into the race and the $4.3 Million dollar earner will find it far easier to make ground on the leaders on the spacious and well cambered Albion Park circuit compared to last week's second placing in the Treuer Memorial.

Also engaged in the race is two time Miracle Mile winner Be Good Johnny, the veteran is returning from a failed Sydney campaign, though was placed second to Blackie in the recent Kevin & Kay Seymour Gold Coast Cup, which proved that he still had his zest for racing. The Fake Left gelding will be looking for win No 2 in this event after saluting in the May 2007 edition.

Stepping up to the open ranks for the first time are Monkey King Championship winner Mega Alexander, last season's 4yo Mares QBred Triad winner Forever After and consistent performer Mason.

The competitive field is rounded out by Ken Rattray pair Destroes and Funny Boy, who continue to compete week in - week out at the open class level.

The meeting consists of 10 races which will see a few good clashes where a battle of tactics will declare the race winner.

The first race is at 5.10pm, the Harness Portal Lord Mayor's Cup jumps at 7.40pm, the last event will be staged at 9.40pm.
