Ryan Stahl steered Kelly Lancaster's Dontgetintheway ($9.20) to a solid 1:54.1 win in Saturday's $5,500 Open Pace at Northfield when the pacesetter, 1:49-pacer Whatanartist tired on the lead. Stahl moved to the outside as the field approached the 56.1 half mile mark and had pretty much put away the leader by the 1:24.4 three-quarter mark.

That also cost the favorite, 2008 Northfield Horse of the Year Lite Me Up and chance at winning, as he was sitting in the pocket behind Whatanartist. The win for Dontgetintheway, a five-year-old Donetgetinmyway gelding, was the 3rd in 10 starts this year after a winless 2008. Whatanartist and Lite Me Up managed to hang on to finish the trifecta.

In the $5,000 Handicap trot, Master Wheels ($27.40) continued his extraordinary run, posting a 1:59.2 win despite drawing post seven in the competitive field. Northfield Wall-of-Famer Don McKirgan steered Master Wheels to the win from far back to improve his 2009 summary to 12-4-2-3, $17,025. McKirgan conditions the four-year-old Master Lavec gelding for a partnership that includes his wife Sandi, Dee Ann Carter and Egidio Dipaolo.

Nobody solved the Pick 5 Saturday, leading to a $2,850 carryover when racing resumes Monday at 7 PM Eastern.
