European Classic elims; J-P Dubois win again

Aby hosted seven divisions of the Euro Classic for harness racing four year-olds today Friday the 3rd of May at Aby, three divisions for fillies and four for males.

A diversified group of winners emerged, one each by ex-US stallions Infinitif, Chocolatier and Yankee Glide plus one by Hambletonian winner Scarlet Knight. Each race was over 2140 meters (autostart) for a purse of 150,000 euro.

The fastest winners were Dreams Take Time (by Andover Andover) in mile rated 1:57.78 for the fillies, securing her 11th victory from 23 lifetime starts, and Quid Pro Quo (Yankee Glide) in 1:56 for the males. This one earned his eighth win in 17 starts. Kentucky Sires Stakes winner Gisela As took the first filly division in her second 2013 start. She’s owned by ACL Stuteri and Kjell Johansson.

Also on the card, the four year-old mare Rica Neo (4f Juliano Star-Cristall Cashflow-Supergill) earned her fourth win in five 2013 starts, impressively winning in a mile rate of 1:56 in the 1640 meter race.

n interesting sire that showed up at Aby is Quite Easy, with winner Sophia’s Blush and third place Baileys Sweet Grim his offspring. Quite Easy is a 2004 foal by Andover Hall-Maritas Victory-Valley Victory that brought $125,000 as a yearling at Harrisburg.

At age two he won the International Stallion Stake and the Champlain; at age three he was second in the Colonial. Quite Easy is a half-brother to From Above (racing tonight at the New Meadowlands and a recent 1:54.2 winner) and the maternal family has produced Mr. Vic, Passionate Glide, Master Glide and Mr. Cantab.

In France at Salon de Provence, the resurgent 72 year-old iconic horseman Jean Pierre Dubois won for the third time in the two days, guiding his own Armensito (3m Love You-Carmensita) over 2300 meters in the colt’s first 2013 start.

It was also announced today in Sweden that Brad de Veluwe (Andover Hall) has committed to the Elitloppet. Maharajah remains invited and not accepted at this date. Additional upper class racing occurs this weekend from which more invitees could materialize and lightly raced US-bred Formula One was victorious at Solvalla this week defeating an upper class group.
