Gidde Palema, the defending champion in the Elitlopp at Solvalla, was an easy winner in the first elimination heat.

Gidde Palema, driven by Ake Svanstedt, took command after 1/4 mile from Digger Crown, driven by Stig H. Johansson. After 1/2 mile Giant Diablo challenged Gidde Palema on the outside.

Down the stretch Giant Diablo tired and Gidde Palema was an winner easy in 1.55.2, followed by Digger Crown and the French horse Kart du Baudrairie, with Giant Diabblo being the last to qualify for the final.

The French horse Love You, driven by Jean Pierre Dubois, did not qualify for the final and the USA-entry, Chucaro Ahijuna driven by Walter Hennessey, went off stride at the start and was disqualified.
