The third leg of the North American Amateur Drivers Association's spring trotting series was contested on Thursday, April 19 at Yonkers Raceway with two short field trots going to post prior to the harness racing betting card getting underway.

When the two races were completed Bob Krivelin and Dave Yarock each emerged victorious in their respective splits. Krivelin, a food purveyor, won with Ace High Hall in a time of 2:00.2 and Yarock, a financial planner, scored with Rompaway Alvin in 2:00.3.

Krivelin and Ace High Hall raced near the back of the pack in the five horse field during the early going and then rallied late to score a head victory over Howsmac Amigo, with Steve Oldford at the controls.

“There were only five horses but it was a very competitive race,” Krivelin related. “Oldford set fast fractions with his recent claim and when I saw the half was in :58.3 I figured I was still in it.. On the final turn Oldford still had three lengths on the rest of us but my horse was just getting underway when I whipped him three- deep and three of us were across the track as we charged to the finish.”

Oldford’s charge hung on for second place while Tony Verruso and Majestic Man were third best.

The second split saw Dave Yarock and Rompaway Alvin maul the three others in the race. After stating from the rail Yarock wasn’t content with the two-hole so he moved going to the quarter but George Newell, Jr. and Winterleebrook played hardball and kept Yarock’s trotter on the limb well past the half in :58.4 before Rompaway Alvin gained command.

Once on top it was all over as Rompaway Alvin trotted off to a four length victory over Iroquouindianmagic and driver Alan Schwartz. Newell’s charge finished third.

He next leg of the NAADA Series will be contested at Monticello Raceway on Thursday, April 26 and then on the following two Thursdays the event(s) will be presented at Freehold Raceway. The series finale will be raced at Yonkers on May 17th for a purse of $12,000.

The drivers with the most points during the preliminary legs will be eligible to compete in the final.
