Lightning Treasure strikes in $26,000 Open

Lightning Treasure in similar style as her earlier harness racing victory came on strongly in the stretch to win the $26,000 Mares Open pace on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at Dover Downs. Jon Roberts got away late and eased out of sixth with Lightning Treasure heading to the clubhouse turn.

After working his way alongside pacesetter Wish All You Want (Eric Goodell) at the three quarters, the two raced side-by-side around the final turn and then Roberts turned Lightning Stable’s six-year-old Western Ideal-Treasure The Best mare loose for a decisive 1:53.4 victory with Boots Place (Ron Pierce) following. High Speed life (Matt Kakaley) took show honors.

Donttellmewhattodo streaked away from the starting gate for Allan Davis and they were never headed in an impressive 1:53.3 success in an $18,000 Mares Winners-Over pace. Darryl Gombert, Jeff Rose and Hankook Stable own the DM Dillinger-Murder Of One eight-year-old, now a three-time winner in six starts this year. Outahere Hanover (Tim Tetrick) was runner-up. Bet On Luck (Montrell Teague) was third.

In a $16,500 4&5-Year-Old Mares pace, horseman Ken Wood returned from another Humanitarian trip to the West African country of Ghana just in time to see Elodie, a four-year-old Real Desire –Armbro Abstract mare he owns with Bill Dittmar win in 1:54.2, her third win of the meet with Matt Kakaley driving. My Juliana’s Girl (Corey Callahan) was next. The shoe Fits (Vic Kirby) was the third horse.

Rodney L. and Rodney K Wyatt’s Ireneonthemove, sat second behind leader Dawn’s Mist (Tim Tetrick) until the passing lane and then charged along the pylons for Corey Callahan to score a 1:54.4 triumph in a $15,000 Mares pace. It was the Powerful Toy-Lindaonthemove eight-year-old’s first win of 2011. Iosmio (Bryan Truitt) edged Dawn’s Mist for second.

Ron Pierce and Brad Hanners drove three winners each.

Monday through Wednesday racing begins at 4:30 p.m. There is no live racing on Fridays. Saturday and Sunday post time is 5:30 p.m. There is no charge for parking or admission. Reservations are suggested for the Winner's Circle Restaurant 302-674-4600.
