Baby Bling - Winning the $750,000 Miracle Mile

Miracle Mile winner Baby Bling was all but set for an American harness racing career before winning last Sunday's Miracle Mile. 'There are only a couple of big mares races for her in Australia and we haven't really entertained going to New Zealand with her.

“The mares race for $40,000 and $50,000 every week in the United States. We were all set to take her there and now her Mile win has halted plans a bit.

“She will eventually get there though,” said co-owner Harvey Kaplan.

Her tentative schedule is the $100,000 Queen Of Pacific in Victoria next month before spelling. Then she will come back to defend The Miracle Mile in November, followed by the Ladyship, and then to Inter Dominion in February.

“That’s when we might take her to the United States - after the Inter Dominion,” Kaplan said.

The 5-year-old Western Terror – Alldatglittersisgold mare is trained at Cobbity by Belinda McCarthy.

Baby Bling is owned by Kaplan, the Estate of Kay Kilgour, S. K. Kilgour, Peter O'Shea, Adam Fairley, Z. D. O'Shea, and B. J. McCarthy. Breeder(s): Kay Kilgour and the Jordash Breeding Trust.

She secured her place in the Miracle Mile by finishing second to stablemate Mach Alert in the Group I $A100,000 Coca-Cola Sprint at Menangle Park on April 13.

Kaplan, a Melbourne stock broker, said the owners were 100 per cent committed to sending Baby Bling to race in the US and Canada.

“This has halted those plans somewhat. We know she will have a lucrative stud career one day but you are a long time retired and we want to race her for as long as possible.

“Yes you will see her race in the United States,” 41-year-old Kaplan said.

“Some of those big races like the Breeders Crown really excite us. She’s lightly raced and can follow any speed. She’d go well up there,” added Kaplan, who also bred Australasian Breeders Crown winner, Fly Like An Eagle.
