Dover, DE - Moments Of Joy ($57.80) scored a shocker in winning the Mares Open Pace at Dover Downs on Wednesday night.

Moments of Joy and Victor Kirby left quickly and put the field to sleep. They set fractions of 27.2, 56.3 and 1:24. as the  field remained in single file, Driver Victor Kirby and Moments of Joy were able to nurse a 29.1 quarter at the halfway point  

Valuable Art remained in the pocket .  Baron Remy was the first to pull down the backstretch and pressed the leader through a 27.2 quarter.

Race favorite Major Occasion A was towed into a 2nd over journey but was gapping.  Nearing the three quarter pole, driver Dexter Dunn felt a sense of urgency and tipped three wide.  Major Occasion A stalled and was unresponsive to Dunn’s asking. Rockin The Boys A remained on the rail and Bettor Joy N mounted a charge from last.

In the stretch, Moments of Joy upset the field at 27-1.  She paced the mile in 1:51.4 over a good surface and won by a length and a quarter.

 

Moments Of Joy a $6,000 yearling purchase is owned and trained by Bryan Truitt.  Finishing 2nd was the pocket sitting Valuable Art for driver Corey Callahan and his dad Nick Callahan. Bettor Joy N closed in the stretch from last and captured the show spot.

Sean Bier was recognized in the Winner’s Circle for accomplishing 2500 lifetime wins as a harness driver.
