Gloucester Park

The Gloucester Park harness racing meeting on Monday August 1 will see the commencement of the new start format of 7x5 for all meetings at tracks which previously utilised a 9x3 format. The change affects meetings at Gloucester Park, Pinjarra and Bunbury tracks while the tracks at Northam and Harvey will continue to use the 7x5 format which has proved so successful.

The change to 7x5 at Gloucester Park, Pinjarra and Bunbury will provide for greater consistency of start format for WA meetings shown on SKY Channel and this should assist grow turnover on WA product.

The most significant aspect of the change will be the barriers from which the best two horses in the field will start when a Preferential Barrier Draw is used.

Presently with a 9x3 format the best performed runners start from barriers eight and nine and their drivers can go forward at the start if desired.

Under the 7x5 format the best two runners will start from barriers 11 and 12 on the second row which means that at some point in the race their drivers will need to make a move to get around the field.

The following figures relate to full fields at the existing 7x5 format tracks with full fields and Preferential Barrier Draws only where the best two horses have been drawn in barriers 11 and 12 respectively.
