SOME of Australia’s most promising indigenous reinsmen and women will head for Sydney in two weeks in a bid to get their name on a trophy that is already becoming hotly-contested . . . the third annual Indigenous Drivers Invitation Stakes at Tabcorp Park Menangle.

Sponsored by Michael Brown Planning Strategies the race will deliver the victor the National title.

In a race that seems to gain momentum each year, Victorian pair Josh Aiken and Sammy Kilgour are the latest to join the select field.

Also in the field are young Queenslander Hayden Green, veteran Forbes driver Jeff Brown and promising young Newcastle driver Kylie Barnes.

Experienced Sydney reinsmen Jimmy Brown and David Caffyn have indicated their desperation to get their hands on the title of Indigenous Driving Champion, while defending champion Royce Gregory-Jack from Albury was delighted to be invited back to chase a rare double.

Bruce O’Brien, the veteran of the field at 56, won the first Indigenous Drivers race and is also keen for a repeat effort in 2013.

Other races are programmed for the annual Fishers’ Ghost meeting on Sunday afternoon, October 27 are races for short, tall, local and travelling horses as well as for drivers, trainers and horses which have not won a race at Tabcorp Park Menangle.
