Moonlight Rockhole became Northern Luck's latest derby winner when he took out the North Eastern Derby at Northam last Saturday (February 27). Jumping straight to the front from the No. 3 gate, the gelding always looked in control and, despite being pressured by stablemate and race favourite Ultimate Fighter in the last lap, prevailed by 1.7 metres on the line.

He tramped his last 800m. in 59 seconds.

Bred by Royalstar Farm, Moonlight Rockhole notched his third win for the term, having scored at Bunbury and Gloucester Park last year.

He is the eighth foal and seventh winner of Gold Duchess 2:00.9 ($116,920), a very smart racemare by Windshield Wiper from the Transport Chip mare Aero Ice and tracing to the noted taproot mare Tondeleyo.

Gold Duchess, a multiple WA classics winner, is the dam of a talented pacer in Manu Magic 1:59.8 ($89,986) and the grand-dam of Billabong Girl 1:55.8 ($143,616), winner of the George Johnson, Pinjarra Cup and WA Breeders Stakes.
