The winners of the 2017-2018 SOA of NY/Yonkers Raceway Jo Ann Hertlein Memorial Scholarship and their families were at Yonkers Raceway this Saturday to receive their awards.

First place winner John McDermott Jr. was awarded the $5,000 top prize scholarship. Christopher Regina received the second place prize of $3,000 and Oleyna Hauser earned the third place scholarship for $2,000.

This year's scholarship was named in memory of Jo Ann Hertlein, a long time office administrator at the SOA of NY who passed away in December. Members of the Hertlein family were also in attendance to congratulate the winners.

The annual SOA/Yonkers Raceway scholarships are awarded to SOA members, or members of their immediate families, or to covered individuals (backstretch personnel) or a member of their immediate families, for study beyond the high school level.

The recipient is chosen on the basis of merit and financial need.
