Shane Butcher takes lead in Rising Stars

Shane Butcher led the charge of the Rising Stars at last night's Northam meeting with three of the current leaders each winning races at the meeting.

Butcher won the opening race with Wilkins Lucinda, Harley Matthew won the second with Miss Rivertin and Kiara Davies won the fourth race with What God Knows.

The ten points Butcher tallied at the meeting (three points for a concession drive plus seven points for a winner) took him into the overall lead from Dylan Egerton-Green who did not drive at the meeting.

oth Butcher (1) and Egerton-Green (4) have drives at tomorrow night’s Harvey meeting which is the final meeting of the 2013 Rising Stars Series.

Egerton-Green has a concession drive so his points will automatically rise to 36 points while Butcher’s only drive is not using a concession so his tally will also automatically rise to 36 points.

Egerton-Green, who lives in Harvey, has drives in races two, three, five and six while Butcher’s only drive is in race seven.

The winner of the RWWA Rising Stars Series will receive a $2000 prize and will represent Western Australia in the New South Wales Rising Stars Series between the 23rd June and 30th June (more details on attached 8th May release from Harness Racing New South Wales).

The winner of the NSW Rising Stars Series will be flown to Perth to compete in the RWWA Rising Stars Invitation Stakes at Gloucester Park on 26th July.

he RWWA Rising Stars Invitation Stakes will be worth $25,000 and an invitation will be extended to the top three drivers in the 2013 RWWA Rising Stars Series who hold an “A” grade licence at the time of acceptance for the July 26th race.


Restricted to Drivers under the age of 23 years at the commencement of the 2012/13 Racing Season who have had less than 1000 race drives as at 30th April 2013.


Each Junior Driver will gain points for driving on the day. Points will be awarded as follows;

  • Competing at the meeting with no concession = 1 point, competing at the meeting with at least one concession used = 3 points

  • Each winner driven on the day will earn 7 points

  • Each 2nd placegetter on the day will earn 2 points

  • Each 3rd placegetter on the day will earn 1 point

he winning Junior Driver at the conclusion of the Rising Stars Series will receive $2,000 and a trophy, second $600 and third $200.
