Well known and respected yearling sale vendors Ken and Ann-Marie Spicer were keeping their fingers crossed when their cracking Bettor's Delight colt Corona walked into the sales ring at the New Zealand Premier Yearling sale at Christchurch today.

They knew they had done everything they could to present the colt in the best possible light and the interest had been there from the buyers bench with countless pre sale inspections.

Ken was confident of a good result .

" He is without doubt the pick of our draft and just a lovely individual in the flesh."

" We have had a lot of positive comment so lets just hope two buyers want him when he is in the ring," Ken told Harnesslink today.

Ken needn't have worried as Corona was the receipt of spirited bidding from the time he had entered the ring.

Steve Thompson and Grant Dickey stuck to their guns the whole way through and signed the sales docket for $132,500 to add Corona to their list of high priced yearlings they brought over the three days of the sales in Auckland and Christchurch.Mark Purdon was the under bidder on Corona.

As with all the yearlings they purchase, Corona will be joining the barn of leading trainer Ken Barron.

"He's a lovely horse, a real standout," Barron said.

Mark Purdon was the under bidder on Corona.

The Spicers have a real soft spot for Rona Lorraine as Ann-Marie explained to Harnesslink post sale.

" Along with our good friends the Flemings, we bought Rona Lorraine off the track when she had finished racing."

" She has done a great job in the broodmare barn for us with her first three foals all being fillies but the first two have raced in the Sires Stakes Series and the third one who is just a two year old, qualified super last week for Cran Dalgety, " Ann Marie said.

For the record the three fillies in question have all been well sought after at the sales as the prices show

* 2012 - Filly By Bettor's Delight  - Bettor Think Twice $78,000

* 2013 - Filly by Bettor's Delight  -  Bettor Think Quick $105,000

* 2014 - Filly by Bettor's Delight  -  Black Raine $42,500

Ann Marie would like a few more like Rona Lorraine in her broodmare band.

" She just produces lovely types each year."

" We have an Art Major filly from her for next year and she is just a standout so I am looking forward to next year already," Ann Marie said.

A big part of the success enjoyed by the progeny of Rona Lorraine is down to all that hard work that preparers like Ken and Ann Marie Spicer put into their progeny on the road to sales day.
