Echuca played host to the Gunbower HRC meeting held at Frank Ryan Raceway on Tuesday December 13, with keen harness racing the order of the night.

Ardmona trainer/driver Doc Wilson has reviralised 8-Y-0 Yentls Image/Plein De Grace gelding Oi You racing like a juvenile at present and brought up three wins in succession when victorious in the Hancock Family Trotters Handicap for T0 or better class over 2530 metres.

Beginning like a rocket from a 30 metre backmark, Oi You lobbed leading the outside division after avoiding a few gallopers, before pressing forward to cross the pacemaker The Driller which also began fast from the 10 metre mark.

Allowed to bowl, Oi You never looked like being beaten and ran out a comfortable winner in advance of a death-seating equal 30 metre marker Le Chabanais which battled on gamely, with Silver Memory (four back the markers) third after being extricated into the clear in the final circuit. The mile rate 2-10.

Oxley Flat owner/breeder/trainer Bernie Blackshaw’s beautifully bred cleverly named Blissful Hall/Under The Mattress 4-Y-0 mare Life Savings chalked up her 5th success in taking the Harcorp Produce Pty Ltd Pace for C0 class (mares) over 2160 metres in a rate of 2-04.3.

With regular reinsman Daryl Douglas in the cart, Life Savings from gate four on the second line bided her time four back in the moving line, before moving forward three wide solo racing for the bell.

Sprinting brilliantly, Live Savings crossed to lead in the last lap and defied all challengers in accounting for a death-seating Dainty Cloud, with the first starter Algobonyia (three back the markers) third.

Riddell trainer Tony Xiriha provided Mach Three/Twisted Jasper gelding Machtwister to score in the Gunbower Roadhouse 3-Y-0 Pace over 1755 metres.

Raced by Sam Godino and partners, Machtwister driven by Chris Alford led virtually throughout from gate three in easily defeating Absolute Dream and Shezagrinner in a rate of 2-01.3.

Narrandera trainer David Kennedy loves racing in Victoria and snared the Campaspe Valley Motors Pace for C0 class over 2160 metres with four time winner Charlie Harper.

Coming off an eye catching second at Shepparton a week earlier, Charlie Harper with stable “apprentice” Blake Jones in the sulky from gate three on the second line trailed Kalahari King forward three wide from the start before settling outside the leader Jazzamataz.

Accommodated by stablemate Tough Denim moving forward to park in the open mid-race, Charlie Harper then enjoyed a cosy passage.

Letting rip three wide in the back straight on the final occasion, Charlie Harper (Artesian/Winsome Lass) led on the final bend and safely held a margin to the wire in defeating Kalahari King which chased in vain, with Kentucky Lane (one/four) third. The mile rate 2-01.9.

Smart 4-Y-0 Armbro Operative/Crystal Reign mare Little Red Cloud resumed racing with a victory in the Joe Newitt Service Centre Gunbower Vicbred Trophy for C1 class over 1755 metres.

Driven by Tooleen based Nigel Milne, Little Red Cloud first up since September from gate five was given the run of the race one/one, with Goldenorro leading from gate three.

Easing three wide in the last lap, Little Red Cloud ran home strongly to overhaul Goldenorro over the concluding stages in a rate of 2-00.4, with Our Braveheart (three back the markers) third.

Navarre trainer/driver Marnie Bibby has been continually in the money in recent outings and captured the Brian & Lyn Wills Santa Claus Pace for C3 & C4 class over 2160 metres with 5-Y-0 Panorama/Sorrento Star gelding Ubringthedrinks in a rate of 2-02.2, leading throughout from gate four in easily accounting for Whatacracker (three back the markers) and Our Calvados which moved from mid-field to face the breeze racing for the bell.

Echuca/Moama’s Shane Gilligan was successful with ever reliable Stature/Cindy Neptune 5-Y-0 entire Goulburn Guy in the Cohuna West End Service Station Pace for C2 class over 1755 metres.

Taking a concession for son Thomas, Goulburn Guy led throughout from gate four, never ever looking in danger after a 10/10 drive, defeating Leica Jet which trailed easing to the outside on the home turn, with Davids Lady (one/two) third. The mile rate 2-01.2.

The Northern Herd Development Co-Op Pace for C1 class over 2160 metres went the way of Equitable/Sheba gelding Hard And Soft for Tallygaroopna trainer Joe Anderson and Nathan Jack in a rate of 2-01.3.

Settling at the tail of the field from the extreme draw, Hard And Soft followed both Smokey Bob and Macray Blissbomb home three wide from the bell, before finishing best to defeat a game Smokey Bob and the most unlucky Ubilix (three back the markers) which was shuffled back through the field when the leader Number Seven gave ground rapidly in the last lap.
