It looks like it’s going to be a perfect summer night for racing on Saturday, July 5 * and what better way to enjoy it than by coming to Mohawk to watch the second leg of the Summertime Pacing Series?

After the initial go-round on June 28, it’s little wonder that Windsun Thunder is the 6-5 betting choice in the second of the two Summertime splits (race #6, post time 9:15 p.m.). The three-year-old son of Cams Card Shark, conditioned by Bruce MacDonald, went wire-to-wire to win by two lengths last week in a new lifetime clocking of 1:52.4, and seems ready to do more.

His most likely challenger is Arts Country, who was second to Smile Fromeartoear last weekend and has drawn the favourable post position #2. Trained by Tim Pinske, the son of Artsplace spent some time at Pocono Downs this spring, scoring a first and a second in two starts, before returning to Mohawk for this series.

In the first $18,000 Summertime division, the aforementioned Smile Fromeartoear is cruising in as the unbeaten favourite * but with only three starts under his belt, this Duane Marfisi pupil will also need some luck on his side, especially since he’s up against the more experienced Space Walk, a division winner last week for trainer Brad Maxwell.

Space Walk, a son of Dragon Again-Galaxy Hopper, was a game second in the stakes-record-breaking North America Cup consolation in June and is the 2-1 favourite in race #3 (post time 8:12 p.m.).

The $60,000 final of the Summertime Pacing Series is set for Saturday, July 12 at Mohawk.
