The Lombo, the signature race for two-year-old colt and filly pacers at Shepparton, will branch out as from the 2013 harness racing series to cater for two-year-old trotters. The brainchild of leviathan breeder and owner Mick Lombardo, The Lombo was inaugurated in 2007 and has become a highly sought after event, especially by trainers with early developing juveniles.

The Lombo, a Listed event, is the first two-year-old classic on the Victorian racing calendar every year.

It is planned to introduce a series for two-year-old trotters starting next year. A minimum stake of $15,000, underpinned by the Shepparton Harness Racing Club, will be up for grabs with the classic to be staged on Saturday, May 11, 2013.

The conditions of the Series will be identical to the format of the very successful pacing classic.

It will be run over 1690 metres from behind the mobile barrier with a random barrier draw.

The 2012 edition of The Lombo for two-year-old pacers will carry $5,000 heats and guaranteed $25,000 finals for both sexes, with the finals to be held at the Shepparton Gold Cup meeting on Saturday, January 21.

The series is open to all foals born in Australia and New Zealand in the 2010/11 breeding season.

Nomination fees of $110 for pacers and $55 for trotters close with the Shepparton Harness Racing Club on July 31, 2012.

For a nomination form or further information contact Club secretary Ian McDonald on 0428 231 403 or (03) 5823 1403 or email:
