CAMPBELLVILLE, September 6 - It took a day longer than expected, but the William Wellwood Memorial eliminations took place Saturday evening at Mohawk Racetrack.

Originally scheduled for Friday night, the eliminations were carried over to Saturday because of severe weather that caused the cancellation of Friday night's card after only one race.

The two $30,000 eliminations were contested as non-wagering events before Saturday night's 12-race card.

In the first elimination, Uncle Lasse led the field from gate to wire to win in a career best 1:54.4. Driven by Scott Zeron, Uncle Lasse set fractions of :27.4, :58 and 1:27 before trotting home in :27.4.

Habitat trotted right behind Uncle Lasse the entire mile, but couldn't outkick the leader in the lane and lost by a length and a quarter. Big Rich finished third, while Don't Rush and Wheels Ah Smoking secured the final two spots in the final.

Uncle Lasse is trained by Jimmy Takter for owners Solveig's Racing Partners. A son of Donato Hanover - Solveig, Uncle Lasse has now won three times in six career starts and has earnings of more than $161,000.

Lookslikeachpndale held off a late push from three rivals to win the second elimination. Driven by Sylvain Filion, the son of Muscle Hill - Poster Pin Up, Lookslikeachpndale led the field into the stretch after reaching the three-quarter pole in 1:28.

Jetpedia, who was first up around the final turn, challenged Lookslikeachpndale the entire length of the stretch, but came up a half a length short at the wire. Aldebaran Eagle, who was only beat a length, won a show photograph over Southwind Stryker. Gifted Way finished fifth to pick up the final spot in next Saturday's final.

Trained by Luc Blais, the Wellwood elimination victory was a maiden breaking score for Lookslikeachpndale. Owned by Determination, Lookslikeachpndale has now earned over $35,000 in five career starts.

Following the eliminations, the post position draw was held for next Saturday's $390,000 final. Elimination winners earned the right to select their post for the final.
