WILKES-BARRE PA - The blazing-hot brother team of harness racing driver Simon Allard and trainer Rene opened the Saturday night harness racing card at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono with three victories and two seconds in the first five races, including taking recent stable addition Avenue Hanover, moving him up a notch, and still winning the co-featured $18,000 claiming handicap pace.   The victorious son of Cam's Card Shark sat the pocket behind favored Muscle Beachboy, going for his eighth straight win (and ironically, claimed after his victorious Allard debut last week), paced to the lead in the stretch, then held off the horse who had been behind him much of the way, Naked City, by a neck in 1:51.3.   The win by Avenue Hanover was the final in a consecutive Allard triple, while in the two seconds, the only driver finishing ahead of them was the U.S. Harness Writers Association's Rising Star award winner, Marcus Miller, with the opening victory behind One To Draw To resulting in a $65.60 win mutuel. Marcus was the leading sulkysitter at the mountain oval last year in the category of $50+ winners with ten, and though he says, "I'd rather be known as the King Of The Favorites than the King Of The Longshots," his talent for maximizing the talent of marginally-chanced horses shone through again.   The first race in which the Allard stable finished off the board all night was a co-featured $18,000 claiming pace restricted to 4- and 5-year-olds, which saw the Veeza gelding Next Success take his fourth straight success in 1:53.3. But the path to the winners circle was one seldom taken by a victorious horse: Next Success actually was fastest out of the gate for driver Jim Morrill Jr. but made a break, settling at the back of the pack after catching quickly (but still over 14 lengths out at the ¼).   Next Success certainly had the fractions go his way (54.4 first half, 58.4 second half), but he still had to rally five-wide on the far turn and through the lane, where his desire for his next success carried him to the line first in the last few steps for trainer Les Givens and the ownership of Henry Faragalli III, Nanticoke Racing Inc., and Bay Pond Racing Stable. (Final note: If Next Success is to make it five in a row in his next trip behind the gate, he'll be doing it for the Allard barn, who claimed the winner.)   The Sir Luck gelding Casimir Jitterbug, who boosted his lifetime bankroll over $960,000 with a victory in the $15,500 top conditioned pace, gave every indication that his achieving seven figures in career earnings is imminent, with much pacing prowess shown in his 1:50.4 win. Looped out of the gate, "Casimir" and driver George Napolitano Jr. jitterbugged to the lead at the quarter, fought off the first-over foe, and then drew away in the last quarter for trainer Andrew Harris and F Bellino and Sons LLC.   In the companion $15,500 trot, the Crazed gelding Andy Ray took a new mark of 1:53.3 for trainer Jim Campbell, the Runthetable Stables, and driver Marcus Miller in the second of the early "Marcus over Simon" contests. Skates N Plates skated swiftly to a 1:23.4 ¾ with a clear lead, but in the stretch he could not maintain his lead, and Andy Ray went by to post a 1¼ length victory over ABC Muscles Boy.   Featured during the Sunday night card at Pocono, which will begin at 7:30 p.m., will be the second preliminary round of the $750,000 Bobby Weiss Series for developing 4- and 5-year-olds. The pacers will be in the Sunday spotlight as they contest $15,000 purses, with four divisions of males and three of females set to provide plenty of competitive sulky action.   PHHA / Pocono

Sassy Hanover (Cam's Card Shark) secured his first ever Open Pace victory at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Saturday as the six year old pacer parlayed the pocket ride to the win in the $12,000 harness racing feature. Billy Dobson is the regular pilot of Sassy Hanover and the leading driver chose to yield early on to Roethblissberger (Mark Beckwith). The move was the winning one on the cold night as the Simone Noud trainee roared out of the pocket and cruised past Roethblissberger to win in 1:54.2. Sassy Hanover, who has been second in the Open in the previous two weeks, paid $5.60 to win as the race's 9-5 betting favorite. Last year's Pacer of the Year at the Spa Artful Way (Frank Coppola Jr) came from last to finish second in the feature while Roethblissberger held on for third. The exacta returned $25.40 while the triple paid $118 in the six horse Open. Sassy Hanover is owned by Dennis and Simone Noud of Saratoga Springs. Live racing continues on Sunday afternoon at Saratoga with a first post time set for 12:15pm. Mike Sardella

WASHINGTON, PA, March 4, 2017 -- Gokudo Hanover gobbled up the leader, Dapper Dude, with a powerful first-over move and went on to pull off a 20-1 harness racing shocker in Saturday's $20,000 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows. Gokudo Hanover's most recent victory (Feb. 11) came in the same class when he upset at 16-1 by following live cover. On Saturday, he needed no such help. Eric Goodell sent him from sixth, 6-1/2 lengths behind, and the 5-year-old Cam's Card Shark-Gifted Yankee gelding triumphed convincingly in 1:52.1. Somehow, Dapper Dude kept it together and saved place, 1-1/2 lengths back, with Kingofthejungle third. Doug Hamilton trains Gokudo Hanover, who now boasts career earnings of $216,877, for Sandbur Farms, Valarie Sutton and Joseph Hemingway. Mike Wilder piloted three winners, including a pair for trainer Paul Corey, on the 12-race card. The Meadows Racetrack & Casino

WASHINGTON, PA, Feb. 11, 2017 -- Dismissed at a lush 16-1, Gokudo Hanover followed live cover before brushing through the lane to score the harness racing upset in Saturday's $20,000 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows. Gokudo Hanover was sixth down the backside when he picked up the first-over cover of Believeinthespirit. Eric Goodell sent the 5-year-old Cam's Card Shark-Gifted Yankee gelding wide out of the final turn, and he soared by the leader, Mykindachip, to triumph in 1:53 over a "good" surface. Kingofthejungle shot the Lightning Lane for second, 1/2 length back, while Hawk's Red Chief rallied for show. Doug Hamilton trains Gokudo Hanover, who vaulted over $200,000 in career earnings, for Sandbur Farms, Valarie Sutton and Joseph Hemingway. It was one of four wins for Merriman on the 12-race card. On Monday, Feb. 13, The Meadows Racetrack & Casino will offer a $20,000 total-pool guarantee for its Pick 5 wager as part of the United States Trotting Association's Strategic Wagering Initiative. The Meadows added the "instant" guarantee after Saturday's Pick 5 was uncovered, resulting in a two-day carryover of $8,563.56. In addition, Monday's card includes a $5,000 total-pool guarantee for the Pick 4, a regular feature of each program at The Meadows. Minimum wager for the Pick 4 (races 4-7) and Pick 5 (races 9-13) is 50 cents. Since Pennsylvania law requires a minimum per-race wager of $2, a player wagering at the 50-cent level must bet at least four tickets. First post for Monday's program is 1 PM. (WOODSTOCK, VA., 10/8/2016) ---- Igotyourcrazy came outside from fifth in the final turn then passed all four front steppers late in the stretch en route to a thrilling conditioned race victory at Shenandoah Downs on Saturday. Reinsman Roger Plante Jr. directed the come from behind effort and with two wins on the day, pulled into a second place tie with Frank Milby in the driver standings with one day to go in the inaugural harness racing meet. Igotyourcrazy was last at the half among the six horses competing but stayed within four lengths of the leader, Camturo Beach. Plante positioned the Del Richards Jr. trainee perfectly moving forward and was part of a four wide contingent coming out of the turn. The 7 year old Cam's Card Shark gelding crossed in 2:00 4/5, 1 1/4 lengths over betting choice Sparkin Your Fire. The winner, out of Allamerican Raquel by Life Sign, won his 15th career start for owner Eric Decker of Milford, Delaware. The meet's leading driver and trainer each added another win to their category leading portfolios Saturday. Driver Tyler Shehan directed Whiskery to victory in the day's finale and trainer Gerry Longo reached the winner's circle with Caress of Steel earlier in the card. Shehan boosted his win total to 14, three ahead of Plante and Frank Milby, while Longo extended his lead among conditioners. Longo enters Sunday with nine triumphs while the next closest is Herman Hagerman with six. Sunday's final day of racing features a 13 race card, free admission and free $5 betting vouchers to all fans. Gates open at 11 AM and first post is at 1:00 PM. Darrell Wood

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - Like a pair of heavyweight boxers, Scott Zeron and David Miller battled back and forth all Saturday night long over the course of the 13-race harness racing program at the Meadowlands, and when Miller delivered the final blow, emerging with Rebel Jet ($9.80 to win) from just off the pace to win the finale, the duo ended the night deadlocked with five winners each. Zeron scored with Aldebaran Eagle ($7.20) in the third, Odds On Delray ($3.20) in the fourth, Winning Linc ($42.80) in the fifth, Lindythefourteenth ($14.80) in the eighth and Moonlight Ransom ($4.80) in the 10th. Miller's earlier winners were Dial Or Nodial ($3.00) in the second, Dealt A Winner ($6.00) in the sixth, Bettor Rock On N ($4.20) in the seventh and Intheblinkofaneye ($2.80), who dead-heated with Yippity Hanover, in the ninth. 'WINNER' DOMINANT: Dealt A Winner destroyed six overmatched foes in the featured $17,500 conditioned pace. The 4-year-old gelded son of Cam's Card Shark was never threatened on the way to 5-length win over Clear Vision in 1:48.2 for trainer Mark Silva. JACKPOT HIT: One lucky bettor hit the 5th race 20 cent Jackpot Super High Five and walked away with $47,949.90. The winning combination of 1-3-4-9-2 saw a 20-1 shot win the race and a 60-1 finish fifth. ... Trainer Tony Alagna led the trainer colony with three winners on the card. ... The $11,000 Open Pace for horses & geldings is the regular Sunday night feature at Running Aces, and this week’s edition was another great contest, with a huge mile posted by the gate-to wire winner, HoldingAllTheCards ($9.40) with Dean Magee in the sulky, despite a sharp move up in class, this horse showed his back class tonight in a commanding harness racing victory in 1:52.0. Dean Magee sent him right to the lead and he was never in doubt, posting fractions of 27.4, 56.1 and 1:23.4 before pacing home confidently in 28.1 to register a length-and-a-half tally. It was the 3rd win in a row for this very nice gelding by Cam’s Card Shark out of the Jate Lobell mare Ivory Tower. He is owned by William and Richard Mc Intyre and trained by David Ginter. Tonight’s victory was his 32nd lifetime win and pushed his career earnings to $343,817. Last weeks open winner Buddy’s Hope (Luke Plano) was second in the mile, with Dry Ice (Steve Wiseman) checking in third. The $15,000 Minnesota-Sired Trotting event went to The Winnin Dollar once again, as he remained perfect in his 5 starts this year, narrowly holding off a furious late charge by Margin’s Echo (Rick Magee) in a 2:00.2 mile, with longshot Ragnar Rocks (Luke Plano) checking in third. Nick Roland sent The Winnin Dollar right to the lead from the outside post and lead throughout the mile, posting soft fractions of 30.2, 1:01.2 and 1:31.1 before trotting home in 29.1 and just keeping his nose up at the wire. He paid $2.60 as the heavy favorite, and is now 5-for-5 this season, with earnings of $22,250 for owner Jesse De Long and Trainer Justin Anfinson. Steve Wiseman had another big night, posting a Hat-trick on the card, most notably winning with his trainee Kukalaka in a new lifetime mark of 1:53.1 paying $19.00, I interviewed Steve on the Post Time With Mike and Mike show on this past Thursday night, and asked him if there was any horse or horses in his barn that we should be watching out for in the near future, he quickly responded “Kukalaka’ and said that he was very sharp right now, and was ready for a big win. Just 3 days later, Kukalaka delivered on his trainer’s promise and posted a huge win tonight, and a handsome payoff for close listeners of the Post Time show. Nick Roland, Jim Marino and Dean Magee all posted driving doubles on the Sunday night card as well. The next card of live Harness Racing goes to post on Tuesday night, July 12, at 7:00 pm CDT.  Running Aces will be adding Live Racing on Wednesdays, starting on July 27th, with a 7:00 post. There was a pair of mild upsets in the two series harness racing finals that took place on Saturday night at Saratoga. The Virginia O'Brien and J P Morel Memorial Pacing Series reached their conclusion on Saturday and while both races featured odds-on favorites, it was two horses who drew post position one that wound up prevailing. Eight fillies and mares battled it out for their share of the $27,500 purse in the Virginia O'Brien Final and while B B Royale (Stephane Bouchard) was the race's 3-5 it was She'snobeachboy (Dave Panlone) who prevailed in 1:57.1 after a first over journey. The Dave Spagnola-trained She'snobeachboy returned $9.50 to win as he bested runner up Stormin Spree (Mark Beckwith) while Southwind Marilyn (Billy Dobson) finished third. Brigadoon (Billy Dobson) was the 1-5 betting favorite in the J P Morel Memorial Pacing Series Final and wound up second best as the race's frontrunner Hillbillycashflow (Cam's Card Shark) held on to win it in 1:56.2. Jimmy Devaux piloted Hillbillycashflow for trainer Heidi Rohr and coasted along unopposed in a slow first half of 59 seconds before holding off the late charge of Brigadoon to win by a head. Hillbillycashflow returned $15.00 to win. Brigadoon had to settle for second in the $27,100 Final while Wishes In The Rain (Bruce Aldrich Jr) earned the show spot. Spinarama (Cam's Card Shark) went the distance on the front end to secure his another victory in Saturday night's Open Pace at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. One of the winningest horses in the local feature in 2015, Spinarama is off to a strong start to his '16 campaign as he recorded his third win in six seasonal tries on a beautiful Saturday night in the Spa City. Stephane Bouchard moved the race's 6-5 favorite out to early lead in the 1 1/16 mile Open, a lead that the seven year old pacer would not relinquish. Caution Signs (Bruce Aldrich Jr) sat the pocket to the winner and wound up second best in the $15,000 feature while Pappy's Pal (Jim Devaux) earned the show spot. The 1 1/16 mile distance was covered in 1:58.3 by Spinarama who gave Bouchard one of his four winners on the night. The veteran reinsman, who also scored in Friday night's feature behind pacing mare Ella V Horse, is currently the meet's leading driver. Spinarama was the race's 6-5 betting favorite and led an exacta and triple that returned $16.40 and $64, respectively. Spinarama is owned by Mike Casalino Jr. and trained by Chris Marino. YONKERS, NY, Tuesday, February 2, 2016 - If harness racing driver Steve Smith brings in a 95-1 shot, are we in for more, six more weeks of winter? Smith and Bullseye ($192.50) was cited for excessive tote board lighting Tuesday afternoon, winning Yonkers Raceway's $10,000, eighth-race pace with the chunkiest mutuel of the season. Unhurried from post position No. 7, Bullseye was seventh at the three-quarters and fifth into the lane. He outmuscled Inthenameofjames (Jason Bartlett) by three-quarters of length in 1:55, his first board finish in three 2016 tries. Last Dragon (Brian Sears), the just-over-even-money favorite, led into the stretch but tired and finished last. Bullseye, a 5-year-old Cam's Card Shark gelding owned by Alroy Chow and trained by Anita Vallee, also led the highest exacta ($793) thus far this season. It's fair to say upset, which begin the Pick 5 sequence, was responsible for the wager going unclaimed. Thus, Friday night's gimmick features a carryover of $2,163.39 (50-cent base wager, races 7 through 11). Frank Drucker

WILKES-BARRE PA -- Ooh Bad Shark, a serious candidate for "Most Improved Standardbred of 2015," brushed to the lead in front of the stands and went on to victory in the $20,000 feature for pacing mares Wednesday night at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, with Andrew McCarthy guiding her to a 1:51.2 triumph .   The daughter of Cam's Card Shark raced in the bottom-level "nw5000L5" class at Harrah's Philadelphia on June 7 of last year -- and since then has won $239,180 in the intervening 18 months, and taken a mark of 1:48.3 at The Meadowlands. In 2015 Ooh Bad Shark has recorded five wins and 16 board finishes in 21 starts, with earnings of $150,040 (now $512,055 lifetime) for trainer William Wiggins, co-owner with Donna Fedorak.   The 2015 racing season at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono comes to a conclusion on Saturday night, with the first race of the last card called for 6:30 p.m.   From the PHHA/Pocono Downs

Cane Pace winner Dealt A Winner (Daniel Dube) lived up to his race-favorite status in one of two divisions of a non-winners of $15,000 in their last 5 races at the harness racing meeting at Harrah's Philly on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 4).   The 3-year-old gelded son of Cam's Card Shark was able to quarter-brush after the speed settled in, leading every step thereafter, winning by a head over Dapper Dude (C. Callahan) in 1:52.3.   It was the seventh career win out of nineteen career starts for the Mark Silva trainee, who paid 3.00.   In the second division, it was Ooh Bad Boy (Allan Davis) who roared up the passing lane to win.   The 5-year-old gelded son of Village Jolt now has 9 wins in 85 starts.   My Zach Bromac N, who set the pace, finished second, while Sweet Beach finished third. Ooh Bad Boy paid $13.00 to win, and completed the mile in 1:53.   Race 10 was a $20-25,000 claiming handicap.   It featured 30 time winner R Gauwitz Hanover, who picked up another win today in 1:52.1. He was claimed for $25,000 today, and it was the twelfth straight start in which he was claimed.   Michael Bozich

Spinarama (Cam's Card Shark) changed tactics to secure the win in the harness racing $19,250 Open Pace on Saturday night at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. It was the fifth Open victory of the year for the Chris Marino-trainee who usually does his best work on the front end. On Saturday night, driver Austin Siegelman got a pocket trip for the six year old pacer who rode the coattails of defending Horse of the Year Panocchio (Gerry Mattison) before poking his nose out in time to win by the slimmest of margins in 1:52. Panocchio finished second while the race's favorite Hot Roddy (Stephane Bouchard) had to settle for third. Spinarama, who is owned by Mike Casalino Jr. of Freehold, NJ, was dismissed at odds of 6-1 and won for the eighth time in 2015. Returning $14.80 to win, Spinarama led an exacta and triple that paid $51 and $131.50. Live racing continues on Sunday afternoon with a matinee beginning at 12:15pm. Mike Sardella

The Cam’s Card Shark horse Shadyshark Hanover, who was the fastest three-year-old in North America in his year, is riding high on the USA two-year-old Sires’ list with his first racing crop. The brilliant, young stallion has left 51 starters from 88 foals for 31 winners and they have amassed $697,043, according to the US Trotting Association’s computer on October 3. Shadyshark Hanover ranks third among the first-season sires, behind only Big Bad John and Roll With Joe. He has 11 in the 1:55 list and 24 in 2:00 headed up by the brilliant two-year-old filly Ginger Shark 1:52.4 ($142,500) and the Fox Stakes winner Sombaro Montae (1:55.6). Legere (1:53.4) and Shady Stella (1:54.2), both Indiana Sire Stakes winners, JD’s Chancy Design (1:53.2), Sharkitude (1:53.8) and Shady Caroline (1:54.6) are other smart performers from Shadyshark Hanover’s initial crop. ‘Shady’s’ oldest Australian stock are two-year-olds and are showing marked ability in the first preparations.

Fair assumption if we asked Yannick Gingras before the races who would give him a Triple Crown win Saturday night, Revenge Shark would not have been the answer of choice. In the latest example of "That's why you race 'em," Gingras and Revenge Shark ($21.60) outsprinted both Art Rooney Pace winner In the Arsenal (Brian Sears) and Adios champ Dude's the Man (Corey Callahan), winning a three-horse, Yonkers Raceway photo in the 60th Messenger Stakes. The second jewel of the Pacing Triple Crown, featuring six 3-year-old colts, two geldings, a $500,000 purse and no previous week's eliminations-didn't offer much early suspense. In the Arsenal, from post position No. 3, left around pole-sitting 3-4 choice "Dude" and made the lead before a :27.3 opening quarter-mile. Revenge Shark, from post No. 2, A slow, :29.1 next station (:56.4 intermission) should have swelled up the leader, especially with no challengers. Rock N' Roll World (Dan Dube) moved from sixth, with stablemate/entrymate Dealt a Winner (Jason Bartlett) second-over. That one, looking to add the Messenger to his upset win in the Cane Pace, eventually jumped it off around the final turn. In the Arsenal was unpressured through a 1:25.1 three-quarters, taking a length-and-a-half lead into the lane. Then, Dude's the Man angled to take his shot, with Revenge Shark also leaving the cones to move further out. In what was a furious last-sixteenth sprint. Revenge Shark stuck his tongue out just in time, whipping "Dude" by a short nose. In the Arsenal was a no-excuse third, beaten a head. Roland N Rock (Tyler Buter) and National Seelster (Eric Carlson) earned the final two pay envelopes, Rock N' Roll World, Rollin' Ring Afire (George Brennan) and the breaking (when he tow stalled) Dealt a Winner rounded out the order. For fourth choice Revenge Shark, a son of '94 Messenger winner Cam's Card Shark co-owned (as Alagna Racing) by (trainer) Tony Alagna and Brad Grant, it was his fourth win in 17 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $63.50, triple returned $154 and the superfecta paid $571. The same horse whose previous start was a break at 1-10 in a Philly overnight won a Triple Crown event. This why you race 'em. "I never drove him before, but I talk to some of his other drivers and they said he could come home pretty good," Gingras said. "I wasn't about to come first-up. I just had to take my chances and it worked out. Actually, I thought I was going by easier, but he was a bit lazy on me late. "I always felt this horse would get a nice payday this year," Alagna said from Mohawk. "He's been knocking on the door and Yannick put him in a position to win." As for his eventful Yonkers Trot night with Pinkman a couple of races before, "We (judges and I) agree to disagree," Gingras said. "I was close (to Buen Camino), but that was something that happens in every single race. If they're going to start taking horses down for what happened in that race, then there will be disqualifications in every race." Frank Drucker
