(NEW KENT, VA --- 10/2-13) ---- What’s Up Rock passed six horses in the stretch to capture the $9,250 final leg of the VHHA Pacing Series Thursday afternoon at Colonial Downs. Trainer Dean Eckley’s three-year-old Rocknroll Hanover gelding started from post eight in the ten horse field and labored in seventh through the first three fractions. A trio of different pacers each tripped the timer early on in the late closer finale. All Tanned Up triggered a :27 2/5 opening panel while Plain Easy got to the half in :54 2/5 and Blueridge Adalia hit the three quarter mark in 1:22 4/5. What’s Up Rock, with Robert Dinning in the sulky, was 7 ½ lengths behind turning for home but surged to the outside, passed the front steppers and crossed in a lifetime best 1:51 3/5. The winner ended up 2 ¼ lengths in front of fast closing Box of Money, who was sixth at the head of the stretch. What’s Up Rock , co-owned by Amanda Klauenberg and Seth Fogelson of Ohio, earned his sixth victory of the year and third in a row. His prior life mark of 1:53 2/5 was set at the New Kent track ten days ago. Gordieisanartist, who paced a 1:49 4/5 mile here a week ago, made it two straight by winning the $6,000 “winner’s over” secondary feature. The 7 year old Real Artist horse went wire-to-wire again but instead of winning by six, battled stride for stride down the stretch with 2012 “Horse of the Meet” Doc’s Bonanza. Gordieisanartist, who rose in class Wednesday, won by a head in 1:50 2/5. Colonial Downs will present an 11 race card on Thursday beginning at 1 PM. by Darrell Wood for Colonial Downs

VERNON, NY—Friday night’s “End of the Summer Showdown” program at Vernon Downs was one of speed and substance. Intimidate captured the $214,000 Credit Winner Open Trot with a 1:51 performance that becomes the fastest mile by a trotter in the 60-year history of the track, and it serves as a new standard for 4-year-old geldings on the diagonal gait. D’Orsay powered to a 1:52 triumph in her first U. S. A. start to win the $202,000 Muscle Hill contest and become the swiftest 4-year-old trotting mare here ever. The season’s standard for 2-year-old pacing fillies locally was lowered twice, finally settling on a 1:52.1 clocking by JK Molly. I’m The Pied Piper sped to a 1:50.2 victory in the night’s $10,000 Open pace that missed the track mark for 4-year-old pacing horses by just two ticks of the timer. Hall of Famer Ron Pierce did the teaming behind Intimidate in Friday’s 11th event, closing from fourth in a :27.4 final quarter to catch and defeat the game Sevruga by ½-length. The time trimmed 1/5th-of-a-second off the previous all-time track trotting mark, set by the great San Pail in 2011. It was the fifth win in six current outings for the bay son of Justice Hall-Fabulous Tag, who is trained by Luc Blais and owned by Canadians Judith Farrow and Les Ecuries Luc Blais, Inc. The gifted gelding is now a career winner of more than $564,700. One race earlier, D’Orsay, competing as part of a two-trotter Jonas Czernyson stable entry, led early, caught a breather in second-place during the middle portion of the mile, and then rallied in the final stages of the contest to defeat the pace-setting Beatgoeson Hanover by three lengths, and secure her fourth victory in 10 current outings. It resulted in the seventh career victory for the bay daughter of Yankee Glide-Danae, now an earner of $302,085 for the Consus Racing Stable. It was one of three victories during Friday’s 12-race card for driver Corey Callahan. JK Molly improved her season’s summary line to 4-1-1 after a career-quickest 1:52.1 effort in Friday’s ninth race, second and final flight of a $106,124 New York Sires Stakes test for 2-year-old filly representatives of the lateral-gait. Tim Tetrick teamed the bay daughter of Art Major-Heather’s Western for noted trainer Linda Toscano and the 3 Brothers Stable. The l-1/2-length tally improved the frisky filly’s career winnings to more than $111,200. Friday’s first NYSS showdown was won by Sweetnsinful (American Ideal-Ali Badali), who reigned as the season’s swiftest frosh distaff sidewheeler locally for a few minutes after posting a career-fastest 1:52.2 score in the seventh race. Jimmy Whittemore did the steering for trainer Homer Hochstetler, an owner along with his wife, Connie, and James B. Michels. The sprightly filly now sports a 3-2-0 performance line and winnings in excess of $106,700 after six official trips to the track. Making just his second Vernon appearance in Friday’s second race, I’m The Pied Piper took the lead after the opening quarter and was never seriously challenged thereafter, winning by three-quarters of a length and authoring one of the faster miles of Vernon’s 60th anniversary season. It was the fourth season’s score and 12th lifetime win for the fast-stepping son of Western Ideal-Lisjune, who reached the $200,000 plateau in career earnings for the Ron Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, JJK Stables and the Panhellenic Stable. Callahan did the chauffeuring for conditioner Ron Burke. Friday’s stellar line-up also included three divisions of a $38,500 Excelsior series match-up for New York-bred first-year female pacers, the fastest of which was won by Spreester in 1:52.3. It was the second local tally for the bay daughter of American Ideal-Rodeo Spree, who currently owns a 6-1-1 performance line after eight career outings. Frank Coppola, Jr. did the sulky-sitting for trainer Paul Zabielski and owner Kimberley Zabielski in the eighth event. The evening’s other Excelsior series first-place finishers were Carlota Blue Chip (American Ideal-Bet Your Life), who earned her “maiden” 1:55.4 victory with Rick Plano piloting for trainer Trond Smedshammer and Wanda Polisseni’s Purple Haze Stables in race 12, and Hay Stacked (Art Major-Monique’s Legacy), who scooted to a 1:56.3 win-mark and her second season’s score in the sixth session, with Callahan at the controls for conditioner Ray Schnittker, an owner along with Theodore Gewertz. DOWNS DOINGS More than $584,000 in prize money was dispersed during Friday’s 61st racing program of 2013… The Regina Dewhurst-owned trotter Ziegler Hanover hustled up his seventh score of the local campaign in Friday’s fourth race and is currently tied with fellow square-gaiter Ulay Boko and the pacer Hot Cowboy for most equine victories through Sept. 6… The Downs will present a 13-race program starting at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday night… A revised 2013 racing and stakes calendar, as well as additional information regarding Vernon Downs, its casino, hotel, racing and promotional events can be obtained at  Jim Moran

Tiger Woods As (3m Quick Wood-Tiegs Blue Chip) won today's (Sunday) Eduard Winter 118th Deutsches Traber-Derby over 1900 meters for a purse of 120,000 euro. The Alwin Schockemohle bred and owned colt was driven by Robin Bakker and trained by Paul Hagoort. He remains undefeated in five career starts and covered the course in 1.14.26kr. Duke of Greenwood (3m Otello Pierji-Nikki Groenhof) was second for Peter J. Strooper with Stanislawski (3m Meaulnes du Corta-Welcome To Circus) third for Dominik Locqueneux. Ni I Nu (by Love You) ended fourth for Hugo Langeweg with fifth to Most Wanted As and Michael Schmid and owner/breeder Schockemohle, an Olympic gold medalist. The German Traber-Derby is the most important classic race in Germany. The initial Derby was held on March 23, 1895 and Berlin-Mariendorf has been the host since 1952. The Derby is the cornerstone of trot racing, for its owners, breeders, drivers/trainers and spectators in Germany and it attracts European coverage via broadcast media where the race can be watched and wagered on. The PMU network included the Derby in their racing/wagering menu and it attracted solid handle.Berlin supports the Derby with many posters, banners and media support. The undercard also showcased solid performances, first in the Derby-Marathon over 3200 meters for 15,000 euro purse. Abano As (7m Abano Boy-Countess Diamond) captured this event in 1.16.64kr for veteran Heinz Wewering, also trainer. He covered 3240 meters to defeat Yesterday (8g Incredible Hulk-Enola Gay) and driver Stefan Schoonhoven that traveled 3260 meters in 1.16.2kr. Aries (6m Look de Star-Unau) traveled 3220 meters to end third for Hugo Langeweg. The Derby Sprint over 1609 meters for 15,000 euro purse produced a win for Top Of The Rocks (8m Love You-On The Rocks) in 1.12.96kr for Gerhard Biendl. Instogramma Sas (9m Diamond Way-Zelda Per) was second for Cornelia Mayr. The companion Derby event for three year-old fillies, held on Saturday August 3rd, went to Fraulein Wunder (3f Love You-Fidelitas) for owner/trainer Marion A. Jaul and driver Roland Hulskath. She took the German Tote Deutsches Stuten-Derby (102,958 euro purse, 1900 meters) for her second 2013 win in six appearances. Abasi (3f Love You-Abani W) finished second for Gerhard Mayr with Fairness (3f Pablo As-Fidelia) third for driver Michael Nimczyk. Another Love You filly, Grande Dame (3f Love You-Glamour Pur), landed fourth for Josef Franzi. by Thomas H. Hicks

WASHINGTON, PA, July 20, 2013 — Rebounding big time from an off-the-board performance, Rusty’s Bliss blew away the field by 9-1/4 lengths in a stake-record 1:53.1 in Friday’s $140,000 Pennsylvania Stallion Series event at The Meadows. The stake for 2-year-old filly pacers was contested over seven divisions, with Corona With Lime, Lucy’s Pearl, Shesaidhesaidisaid, South Beach Babe, McVita Bella and Southwind Jumanji taking the other $20,000 splits. Dave Palone enjoyed a stakes triple behind Corona With Lime, Lucy’s Pearl and Southwind Jumanji. Rusty’s Bliss finished a back-pedaling fourth in a July 12 Pennsylvania Sires Stake division, but she was tons the best in her front-end score Friday for Brett Miller. Quotable Quotes edged Stucklikeglue for place. The time erased the stake mark of 1:54.1 matched only one race earlier by Corona With Lime. “They told me she was sick her last start, and they felt she would be better tonight,” Miller said. “She had pace left, so she could have gone more. As handy as she is, I think she’ll go even more out of a hole.” Michael Hall trains the daughter of Four Starzzz Shark-Rusty’s Joy for Claim To Fame, Carter Racing Stable and Allen Kaplan. Although her stake record was short lived, Corona With Lime raced impressively in her first start for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. The daughter of Allamerican Native-Polished Satin got every call and romped home, 9-3/4 lengths better than the pocket-sitting Weeper, who squandered her opportunity with multiple late breaks. Artista K completed the ticket. “I like everything about her,” Palone said. “She was a little green on the lead, but every time I asked her, she wanted to go.” Shesaidhesaidisaid did all her talking on the lead, narrowly holding off the late charge of Boots N Saddle, who fell a head short, in 1:55.2. Americangirlfriend earned show. Eric Ledford drove for trainer Roland Mallar, who owns the daughter of Well Said-Lucky Irma with Edward Bardowski. “She’s small, but she has a great attitude. I think her size is why she brought only $13,000,” Mallar said. “We’ll keep her in the stallion series for now. We don’t want her to have to kill herself every week.” Saturday’s power-packed card at The Meadows features two eliminations (Races 6 and 7) for the $600,000 (est.) Delvin Miller Adios as well as three stakes for PA breds with combined purses exceeding $550,000. In addition, The Meadows will offer a Pick Four spanning Races 4-7 with a guaranteed pool of $7,500. First post is 6:55 PM. by Evan Pattak

Fillies are the featured entertainment at Mohawk Racetrack on Monday, July 1 as the Campbellville oval welcomes the two and three-year-old pacing fillies for Ontario Sires Stakes action and hosts two Miss Versatility divisions for their older trotting peers.

There will be an astonishing number of firsts in the yearling portion of this year's harness racing Harrisburg Sale. There are 261 yearlings who are by first year stallions. In addition there are 205 yearlings who are the first foals of their respective dams.

Jonathan McNeill of Barra Equine Limited is pleased to announce the arrival of the $1,436,363 earner Dali (p2,1:50.2; p3,1:48.2f), a very fast juvenile and a former three-year-old world record holder and the first son of the sensationally bred and top sire Real Artist to stand in Australasia.

Dali made his first appearance at Dover Downs since winning the 2008 Matron Final, with a 1:51.3 harness racing victory on a blustery cold Monday, Dec. 13. Solano won a second straight $32,500 Delaware Special while Transcending took the $26,000 Open pace. Meet leading driver Ron Pierce had four wins.

Dali served notice to his older pacing counterparts that he will be a force to be reckoned with this harness racing season after a sparkling 1:49.3 victory in the $90,000 Spring Pacing Championship final on Saturday night (April 10) at Woodbine Racetrack.

Following a punishing victory in last week's second leg of the Spring Pacing Championship, Dali will look to duplicate that effort as the 5-2 morning line choice in Saturday night's (April 10) C$90,000 harness racing final at Woodbine Racetrack.

VIP Internet Stable has acquired an ownership interest in the harness racing world champion pacer Dali. The deal with owners Aaron and Isaac Waxman's Uncirculated Stable of Ontario was completed this week, and financial terms were not disclosed.

Following last year's record-setting performance by Artistic Fella, the 2009 Ben Franklin Pace Free-For-all is expected to once again attract top performers at Harrah's Chester Casino & Racetrack in suburban Philadelphia, Pa. on Sunday, July 26.

Dali obliterated the track and stakes record with a 1:48.2 victory in the $249,113 Matron Three-Year-Old Colt Final and becomes the sport's newest millionaire on a Spring-like Monday, Dec. 15 at Dover Downs.

The 2008 major stakes season comes to a close with the $249,113 Matron Final at Dover Downs on Monday, Dec. 15. A $32,500 Delaware Special, a $26,000 Open pace and a $22,000 Winners-Over pace are the sub-features.

Somebeachsomewhere was as impressive as expected in winning his division of the Burlington Stakes last week at Mohawk, but Duane Marfisi trainee, Dali, was actually the fastest of the three Burlington victors, stopping the timers in a speedy 1:50.3 … which makes him the HPI Power Performer of the week.
