Favored Ulysse (6m Love You-Loctudy-Extreme Dream) drew away in the late stages of the 2850 meter, 150,000 euro purse Gr. II Prix du Calvados at Vincennes to score impressively in 1.14.1kr. Thomas Levesque was in the irons for trainer Mike Lenders and Ecurie des Pommiers. The winner secured his 10th career win now with increased earnings of 512,030 euro. The race is an International UET Masters Series event and a test leading to the Prix du Cornulier on January 19. The winner of that race earns a bid to the Prix d'Amerique a week later. The 2013 Prix du Cornulier winner Singalo was disqualified today after what appeared to be a tiring miscue. He had battled to overcome a 25 meter handicap that also affected 8th place finishing Risque Tout, both being the highest money earners in the field. Rapide du Digeon was second for Damien Bonne with Utoky third for Franck Nivard, riding for trainer Franck Leblanc and owner Ecurie Cte. P. de Montesson. Taiga du Rib, trained by monte specialist Joel Hallais and Ecurie Rib, ended fifth with Yohan Lebourgeois up. 1/5/14 Vincennes - Prix du Calvados, Gr. It was a momentous occasion today for Classic Equine NZ, the owners of Raffaello Ambrosio, as his first raceday starter took to the track at Motukarara and despite the poor track conditions, won well. Gee Up Neddy, a 3 year old gelding owned and bred by Canterbury trotting stalwarts Keith and Bevan Grice by Raffaello Ambrosio out of the good mare Marie (by Sundon) and trained by Peter and Leone Jones, started favourite in a C0 field. Driven by Colin de Fillipi, Gee Up Neddy handled the testing conditions, sitting parked for most of the journey, running home well in the straight to score a convincing one length win. Raffaello Ambrosio is standing his fifth full season at Eyreton Lodge in North Canterbury. A top class racehorse in the USA, Raffaello Ambrosio won $US810,614 in his 49 start career which saw him win a Titan Cup and place in many of the top USA feature races, including a fourth in the Hambletonian. He also deemed good enough to be invited to the Italian classic, the Gran Premio della Lotteria - where he made the final against the mighty Varenne - and the Forus Open in Norway. "He had the privilege to race with distinction in a golden era that pitted him against horses like Varenne, Moni Maker, Fan Idole, Self Possessed, Fern, Magician, Angus Hall and CR Renegade," said John Munro, director of Classic Equine. Classic Equine NZ identified his potential for the NZ market based on his maternal breeding, being maternally bred on an Arndon/BF Coaltown cross, a cross the same as Sundon. "BF Coaltown, being a sire of the 70's, probably did not garner much interest from the American market, but the incredible nick that the maternal side of BF Coaltown with New Zealand mares with the likes of Sundon, and as it subsequently proved Dream Vacation, was the magnet to pursue Raffaello Ambrosio." As well as being from the very strong family of Minnehaha, Raffaello Ambrosio is the second highest earning son of Victory Dream (after Self Possessed) who from only 89 foals, produced 71 starters for 50 winners and stakes of over $US7.7 million, with 19 earning over $US100,000. He is a very close relation to Dream Vacation on both his sire and dam's side, and racing in similar length careers actually earned more money on the track (including a prestigious Titan Cup win) than the now Swedish-based sire who was taken New Zealand and Australia by storm. While not being of great interest to the breeders in the USA, Raffaello Ambrosio produced 22 foals for 11 starters and 9 winners, with 1 earning over $US200,000 and 3 over $US100,000 and stake wins in excess of $US650,000. As a broodmare sire he produced the 2 time Kentucky Sires Stakes Winner, Victors Future, to bring his overall earnings to over $US 1 million - a very good effort for such a small number of progeny. Imported into New Zealand late in the 2009 breeding season, Raffaello Ambrosio served 6 mares, getting 4 in foal. His Achilles heel, however, proved to be transported semen, and despite being sent for a season to a recognized breeding establishment and being deemed suitable for a frozen semen programme, his performance on transported semen did not improve enough to warrant its continuation. Raffaello Ambrosio now serves on farm only from Eyreton Lodge. He has received good support from a number of prominent broodmare owners and is being bred to a selection of mares from the top trotting families in NZ. While it is disappointing to the owners that he can not serve a larger number of mares, they are prepared to accept quality over quantity and are confident that not only will he produce good horses now, but that he will prove himself in the future as a valuable broodmare sire. Along with Gee Up Neddy, several of his foals from the 2010 crop are set to make their appearances at the trials in the New Year - Mediodito (qualified), Belle Gambe (a half Miss Boomschukaluka, T 1.58.9. $94,851), Montelupo (a half to Foray, 4 wins), and Here We Are, along with Raffs Folly, a late Feb 2009 foal.

Just as an announcement that a shipment of Dream Vacation frozen semen has become available once again to Australasian harness racing breeders we thought it is timely to look at the background of this son of Pine Chip. Dream Vacation achieved international recognition finishing second to the world champion Varenne in a then all time record 1:51 Breeders Crown encounter at The Meadowlands. Dream Vacation personifies the term “stallions pedigree” being a son of the World Champion Pine Chip from a full sister to Valley Victory’s brilliant son Victory Dream sire of the all time fastest Hambletonian champion Self Possessed. Pine Chip (1:51) was available in Australasia for six seasons but only covered 21 mares in NZ and just four in Australia. He did produce the champion Somrthingaboutmaori ($461,000) in Australia but nothing else of real class. So when Dream Vacation a son of Pine Chip was offered to Australasian breeders via frozen semen the response was very low key to put it mildly. Taking a time of 1:52 and winning stake money of $616,000, Dream Vacation was not in the same class as his sire as a racehorse but was a quality individual nonetheless. His record at stud in North America shows he was a talented sire and makes good reading remembering that Dream Vacation only stood at stud for five seasons in the US as he was exported to Sweden in 2007.  US stakes won - $25,495,000    Winners - 265     Sub 1:55 winners - 43    Sub 1;53 winners - 7  As a broodmare sire Dream Vacation has achieved a rarity having already produced the 2012 "Horse Of The Year" in Chapter Seven (now at stud) the equal fastest trotter on the Planet at 1:50.1 ($1,954,966). Okay, Dream Vacation was made available to Australasian breeders for over 10 years, but numbers of mares served were never very large. In New Zealand Dream Vacation has only 84 registered foals, three- year-old or older. The statistics for those 84 are nothing short of amazing. Starters - 66 which is 78% of his live foals.  Winners - 52  which is 62% of his live foals   Stakes won - $2,451,000 Winners include such stars as Stent $242,000, Leighton Hest $205,000, Cyclone U Bolt $192,000,   Real Deal Yankee $175,000, Dream Merchant $159,000, Boizel $148,000 and Great Getaway $117,000. In Australia he has just 29 foals three years or older for 21 winners including such handy trotters such as Dougie $89,000, King Kong Cooma $89,000, Likeaplayboy $88,000, Alderbaran Maori $74,000 and Maori Vacation $74,000  Right from the start , Dream Vacation has excelled at stud in Australasia. A lot of stallions have issues with their frozen semen not being as productive as their fresh semen. Not Dream Vacation. He has become the flag bearer for frozen semen in Australasia. As noted his frozen semen has just become available again at Nevele R stud and as a result Dream Vacation should serve books of mares more in keeping with his outstanding stud record to date in Australasia. JC This is a series of stallion reviews that Harnesslink are doing with a view to sheading some light on some of  the "forgotten"sires in Australasia. On a sensational card at Napoli's Ippodromo di Agnano, pacesetter Princess Grif (4f Varenne-Fauvre Grif-Viking Kronos) captured the prestigious Gr. I Gran Premio Tino Triossi (2100 meters autostart, 209,000 euro purse) for reinsman Roberto Andreghetti and owner Allevamento IL Grifone SRL. She scored over Papadreu (4f Abano As-Capucine-Sugarcane Hanover) handled by Enrico Bellei. One of the favorites, 2/1 Prussia (4f Ken Warkentin-Elvezia-Pine Chip) battled the pacesetter mid-race until top of stretch when she gave way after an aggressive drive by Pietro Gubellini. Pioneer Gar (4f Varenne-Follia-Pine Chip) ended fourth for Roberto Vecchione after getting a perfect two-hole journey. Princess Grif was the 3/2 favorite in the contest that was widely carried on simulcast wagering networks throughout Europe as she recorded a sharp 1.12.4kr score over the 1-5/16 mile course. The Gr. II Royal Mares (1600 meters autostart, 45,100 euro purse) went to the superb mare Orsia (5f Angus Hall-Tigre OM-Zebu) in 1.12.6kr for Roberto Vecchione. The Scuderia Sant Andrea SRL owned stalwart increased her career earnings to 391,000 euro as she defeated Oibambam Effe (5f Classic Photo-Etna Sec-Viking Kronos) and Andrea Guzzanati at the reins. Mururoa As (7f Lemon Dra-Jade's Tiara-Crysta's Crown) ended third for G-P Maisto. The winner's time was only two-tenths off the race record held by Linda di Casei. Elimination #2 of the Derby (2100 meters autostart, 22,000 euro purse) ended in a comfortable 1.12.9kr score for highly favored Robert Bi (3m Toss Out-Up Front JM-Self Possessed) with Robin Bakker aboard for trainer Paul Hagoout. The "awesome" trotting winner is owned by Allevamento G. Biasuzzi and may be the favorite for the Derby Final on December 26. Rotary OK (3m Andover Hall-Miss Possessed-Self Possessed) was second for Marco Smorgon and third went to Royal Blessed (3m Varenne-Ivory Kronos-Viking Kronos) with teamster Lorenzo Baldi. The Lou Guida owned, Jerry Riordan trained Raise Wise As (by Donato Hanover) was fifth reined by Enrico Bellei. Italian Derby Elimination #3 (2100 meters autostart, 22,000 euro purse) went to Red Baron (3m Majestic Son-Check and Balance-Balanced Image) in 1.13.5kr for owner Pella Matteo and reinsman Federico Esposito. He received the benefit of a Riordan stable battle. Rod Stewart (3m Love You-Valley Lane-Lindy Lane), parked by stablemate and filly Rossella Ross, was a game second for trainer Jerry Riordan with Enrico Bellei up. The second dam of this one is Desdemona Hanover (Super Bowl-Descent). Ruty Grif (3m Varenne-Correr By Pass-Donerail) finished third for G-P Maisto ahead of the other Riordan trainee Rossella Ross (3f Self Possessed-Northern Jewel-Balanced Image) in rein to Roberto Andreghetti. She set the pace and weakened late after taking a toll on Rod Stewart. Along with first batteria winner Re Degli Dei (pictured below) the Derby looks to be a competitive affair where racing luck might be a factor in the end result. The final graded event on the outstanding card today was the Gr. II Gran Premio Carena (1600 meters autostart, 55,000 euro purse, four year-old mares) and it went to Peace of Mind (4f Uronometro-Efrica d'Alfa-Sugarcane Hanover) in 1.12.8kr for Andrea Guzzinati and owner Cecchi Leonardo. Close second went to Priscilla Zak (4f Varenne-Flute Grif-SJs Photo) with third to Petra Inn Ronco (4f Cantab Hall-Cynthia del Ronco-Sugarcane Hanover) in a blanket finish in which the top five were clocked in 1.12.9kr or better. Petra Axe (4f Daguet Rapide-Image Deimar-Indro Park) finished fourth ahead of Panthea Club (4f Revenue-Alidora-Probe). by Thomas H. Hicks for            Renaissance Partners LLC   Thomas H. Maharajah (8m Viking Kronos-Chili Khan-Giant Chill), reunited with teamster Orjan Kihlstrom, won todays V75 Gold at Aby over 2140 meters autostart. He earned 150,000SEK for the win, his 29th in 55 appearances, now for career earnings over 19.1 million SEK. Kihlstrom moved the veteran to the front after the first quarter and he led thereafter, beating off a challenge from US import Solvato that faded to fifth in late going. Maharajah won by ¾ length under no apparent urging as he defeated Oasis Bi (5m Toss Out-Upo Front JM-Self Possessed) and Claes Svensson with late charging Politiken (6g ENS Snapshot-Goldie Hawn-Earthquake) third for Morten Friis. The winner was timed in 1.12.8kr over a sloppy racetrack on a rainy, foggy afternoon and keeps Sweden's trotting icon in the hunt for the prestigious Prix d'Amerique in late January. Italian Derby to Re Degli Dei At Napoli, Italy,  Re Degli Dei (3m Conway Hall-Bliz-Sugarcane Hanover) won the Italian Derby (Gr. Lexington, KY --- World champion Cash Hall, the fastest trotting Standardbred of all time on a half-mile track at T1:51.1h, will stand in 2014 at Cool Winds Farm in Lima, Ohio. A racehorse who earned $554,298, Cash Hall has been equally successful in the stud, with progeny earnings of more than $9 million to date, including 18 trotters in 1:55 and the 2013 USTA District 8 Horse of the Year, Market Rally, the winner of $281,816 this year at two and the third place finisher in the $500,000 Breeders Crown 2-year-old filly trot. By Hambletonian winner Self Possessed, out of Chatty Hanover, by Super Bowl, Cash Hall offers the same sire line as Cantab Hall, the leading sire of the present day. He will stand at Cool Winds Farm under the management of Walnut Hall Ltd. for a fee of $3,000, live foal. Submitted by Walnut Hall, Limited

Balmoral Park will not only play host to some of the best horses in North America on Saturday Nov. 9th for the American National Stakes ,  but some of the sport’s leading reinsman will also be in Crete to steer the cream of the crop over the one-mile oval.      A pair of $200 million men—Hall of Famers John Campbell and Ron Pierce are slated to drive. This pair will reach half a billion combined in purse earnings—that’s right—HALF A BILLION DOLLARS, in 2014.       While many of Campbell’s accomplishments in the sport came when he was in his 30s and 40s, every single one of Pierce’s Triple Crown or Breeders Crown triumphs—41 total—have all come after his 35th birthday!  Pierce, who trailed Campbell for many years, surpassed $200 million in career earnings while competing at Lexington’s famed Red Mile this September.      Pierce is also the oldest driver to record a driving triple in Breeders Crown Finals, when he did so a few weeks ago at Pocono Downs, at age 57.  He was the first driver to win with a 2-year-old in 1:50, when he steered Badlands Hanover to a 1:50 clocking in the 1998 Breeders Crown at Colonial Downs.  He was also the only driver to defeat world champ Somebeachsomewhere, when he piloted Art Official to victory in the 2008 Meadowlands Pace.      Pierce is also the only driver to go five straight seasons winning either the Meadowlands Pace (2008, 2009, 2001) or the Hambletonian (2007, 2010)—two of the sport’s greatest events, and just missed becoming the only driver in history to win the Hambletonian from post ten in 2002 with Like A Prayer, who finished a neck back of the winning Chip Chip Hooray. Pierce also was the driver behind the sport’s last female Horse of the Year, Rainbow Blue (2004).      Campbell, 58, was the youngest person ever inducted into harness racing’ s Hall of Fame in 1990, and his dominance and presence in racing in untouchable, as he at the top of nearly every statistical list kept by the USTA.  He’s driven the winners of more than $3 million annually every year since 1982, except for 2011, when he drove the winners of $2.5 million.   He currently has $284 million in career purse earnings and 10,613 lifetime wins to his credit.      Campbell is the leading driver of Breeders Crown winners with 43 to his credit and has won six Hambletonians , three Hambletonian Oaks, six Kentucky Futurities, three Little Brown Jugs, and Sweden’s famed Elitloppe, among his endless list of accomplishments.       Campbell and Pierce are also the two winningest drivers in Breeders Crown history with 29 victories each, while Mike Lachance (also here tonight) is in third with 27 Breeders Crown titles to his credit.      Speaking of Breeders Crown triumphs, for the first time in history, the top five ranking North American drivers won every Breeders Crown Final contested this year, on Oct. 19 at Pocono Downs in Pennsylvania.  Pierce, Tim Tetrick, and Yannick Gingras each won three Crowns, while David Miller notched two Crowns and Brian Sears a single Crown.       With his lone 2013 Breeders Crown victory, Sears (also here tonight!) extended his streak of winning at least one Breeders Crown race now for 11 straight years.   John Campbell, no surprise, holds the record at 15 years (1984-1988).      Sears has nearly $150 million in purse earnings and was the first driver in history to earn more than $15 million in a single season (in 2005), the same year he drove Rocknroll Hanover and Muscle Hill to Horse of the Year titles, and the same year he set a world record for female pacers with My Little Dragon of 1:48.1.       Ten of Sears’ 24 Breeders Crown wins (all since 2003) have come with 3-year-old trotters (5 fillies & 5 colts each).  He has driven all of trainer Trond Smedshammer’s eight Breeders Crown winners, and is the only driver in history to have won the Hambletonian and the Hambletonian Oaks in the same year, twice—in 2009 and 2013.      Yannick Gingras (he’s here too!) had just one Breeders Crown victory prior to his start in the classic events in 2012.  That lone win, however, came with Southwind Serena in 2008 in the 3-year-old Filly Trot—when he steered her to win and return $102.80 on a two dollar ticket.  Gingras, 34, is nearly $7 million ahead of Campbell in career earnings at the same age.      Gingras also steered the 2012 American National 3-year-old Filly Trot winner Maven, to a 1:54.3 clocking here last year, and had multiple Am-Nat victories in 2011 when he piloted Princess Cruiser to win the 2-year-old Filly Pace in 1:56.1; Looking Hanover to win the Aged Trot in 1:56; and Foiled Again to win the Aged Pace in 1:51.4.      Mike Lachance, 62, who’ll be piloting Creatine tonight in the American National for 3-year-old colt trotters, just finished second with the colt at the Breeders Crown, and won the Kentucky Futurity at The Red Mile with the Bob Stewart-trained sophomore in September.       Lachance was the first driver to win six races on a day card and six races that same night, when he did so at Yonkers on June 23, 1987.  One year later, in 1988, he scored his 5,000th career victory at The Meadowlands, with Instrument Landing.      Lachance also became the first driver in history to win a Breeders Crown race at age 55 or older when he won three in 2006 at Woodbine Raceway in Toronto.  He won one Hambletonian (with Dream Victory in 1994) before going into the Hall of Fame in 1995, and three after going in (with Continentalvictory in 1996; Self Possessed in 1999 and Amigo Hall in 2003) and is the last driver to win the Hambletonian with a female, the aforementioned Continentalvictory.      Lachance has won eight American Nationals:  first in 1988 with Matt’s Scooter in 1:55.2 in the 3-year-old Colt Pace; then in 1992 with Baltic Striker in 1:57.3 in the 3-year-old Colt Trot & with Imperfection in 1:59.3 in the 3-year-old Filly Trot & with Crouch in 1:54.4 in the 3-year-old Colt Pace; in 1995 with Divine Victory in 1:57.2 in the 3-year-old Filly Trot; in 1999 with Self Possessed in 1:53 in the 3-year-old Colt Trot; in 2004 with Cantab Hall in 1:55 in the 3-year-old Colt Trot; and in 2009 with Lanson in 1:53.4 in the Aged Trot.      Ohio native David Miller, 48, is the fourth leading money winning driver in the sport’s history and has nearly 11,000 career victories. He is the only driver in history with eleven, $10 million seasons and is the only driver to ever have a Triple Crown and Breeders Crown winner in the same season, in 2003 with No Pan Intended.  He won the first ever Breeders Crown million dollar event, with the mighty trotter Magician in 2000.      This year he’s steered his two fastest career drives: with Pet Rock and Shebestingin, who both paced in 1:47, and was elected into harness racing’s national Hall of Fame this year as well. He was named Driver of the Year in 2003 and is a three-time winner of the Little Brown Jug.  He is also one of only two drivers to have won the Jug and its sister event, the Jugette, the same year.  His ranks among the top five Breeders Crown winning reinsmen, with $8.5 million in Crown earnings.      Tim Tetrick needs no introduction to Illinois racing fans. This Prairie State native has 13 Breeders Crown wins under his belt with only a few weeks away from his 32nd birthday (Nov. 22).  This is the seventh straight year he’ll sit atop the national standings in earnings (only Billy Haughton has ever gone longer; eight years—from 1952 to 1959).    Tetrick has the distinction of being the youngest member of harness racing’s $100 million-earning club, and is the only driver to win a million dollar race on a half-mile track—when he steered Southwind Lynx to win the 2007 Rooney at Yonkers. He’s the only driver in history to win the Meadowlands Pace twice in his first four attempts and if Captaintreacherous is named Horse of the Year, it will be the first time in 28 years that a driver has won that award back to back with a trotter and then with a pacer (last year he was the driver on the Linda Toscano-trained Chapter Seven).  Hall of Famer Bill O’Donnell accomplished that feat in 1984 and 1985 with Fancy Crown and the great Nihilator.   by Kimberly Rinker for Balmoral Park

Tac’s Delight (Self Possessed) won the Open Trot for the second time in four tries at Saratoga Casino and Raceway, cruising to a front running victory on Friday night. Billy Dobson piloted the eight year old trotter in the $15,000 feature and moved him out to the early lead. The Rene Allard-trained Tac’s Delight stopped the timer in 1:56.3 for his second win of the season, besting Slugfest (Phil Fluet) who finished second and Keystone Wyatt (Bruce Aldrich Jr) who earned the show spot. Tac’s Delight was the race’s 3-5 favorite. Live racing continues on Saturday night with a first post time of 6:45pm. by MIke Sardella for Saratoga Raceway

The Raceway at Western Fair hosted ROS Ontario’s final 2013 exhibition monte race on Friday evening. The Doug McIntosh owned and trained Lady Is A Pirate (5f Mutineer-Self Secure-Self Possessed) scored in 2:03.3h for rider E. Harms after taking the lead approaching the three quarter mile mark. The pair held off Riina Rekila piloting Katla (3f Cadillac Hall-Flores-Balanced Image) for a two-length win in the eight horse field. At Caen (FR) the Saturday nine race card showcased three monte events, two for 30,000 euro purses and one for 25,000 euro. The Prix d’Argentra started the action and Elisabeth Allaire won for the 27th time this year as she rallied veteran SpeedyFac to victory in a hotly contested race over the sloppy going distance of 2450 meters. Tac’s Delight (Self Possessed) made his local debut a winning one on Friday night at Saratoga Casino and Raceway in one of the most dramatic photo finishes tihs year.. Billy Dobson piloted the eight-year-old trotter to a win in the $19,260 Open Trot for trainer Rene Allard after coming from the back of the pack before winning a tight photo finish by a nose. The second, third and fourth place horses were separated by only an additional nose, nose and a neck! Tac’s Delight was making just his second start of the season for Allard and his first since January but was good enough to score in 1:56.2. Pay The Winner (Stephane Bouchard) just missed securing the upset and had to settle for second while Victory Tax (Shawn Gray) earned the show spot with Slugfest (Jim Devaux) fourth in the photo. Tac’s Delight returned $15.60 to win in the Friday feature. Live racing continues on Saturday night at Saratoga with a first post time set for 6:45pm. by Mike Sardella for Saratoga Raceway

If history counts for anything, then D’One is a shoo-in for the Swedish Oaks on Saturday. The Donato Hanover filly has breeding going her way, being not only the offspring of two world champions but her dam, Giant Diablo (1.50.1, US$1.98 million) is also a former winner of this race. No one has won more Swedish Oaks in the bike than her regular pilot Örjan Kihlström, and her trainer Roger Walmann is second on the list of trainers who have won this Swedish classic, with three - behind Stig Johansson who has trained six but is not represented tonight. D'One   won the second of six heats from which the top two went into this race, and  has won seven of her 10 starts and placed twice. Indeed she won her first four starts before a third in the Group I E3 Langa fillies final, and has won three of her last four.  She has also has the number two draw in her favour. But there are 11 other fillies who will be keen to deny her that place in the history books including Solvalla local  Walmann’s second filly in the event Mellby Briolett  who will also be one of the favourites, although she does mix her performances as her 3 wins 3 placings in 10 starts shows.   But the Going Kronos filly has already won the Group I E3 Langa final. She is also from a super family with her dam is a half-sister to Self Possessed  from the family of  Deweycheatumnhowe. She will be driven by Johan Untersteiner. Walmann’s third entry is Mythical Fortune  (Mythical Lindy)   Torbjörn Jansson  who was second in that heat and has been a consistent performer with five wins and three seconds in 13 starts. Another Solvalla trainer Björn Röcklinger has heat winner Fly the World  who went the fastest time in the heats with 1.13.5  but is drawn nine. The Juliano Star filly has won nine of her 17 starts and has a best mobile time of 1.13.2 (1.57.4MR) and will be driven by Juha Siirtonen.      Stefan Melander who is lying third in the Swedish training premiership has drawn the pole with Symmetric a daughter of former Hambletonian winner Scarlet Knight, arguably the most successful US stallion in modern times.  This filly is a very interesting runner with, her dam being Magyare Turgot, a sister to Noba Turgot who won the French Classic Prix des Elites, which coincidentally is being run the very same night, in Vincennes. Her win in the qualifying heat was her first but with her French bloodlines, it might just be that she is now getting mature enough to compete at this level. Melander also has the lightly raced Classification in the race after she ran second in her heat in only her sixth start. Drawn six and with driving ace Bjorn Goop in the cart, she is also by Scarlet Knight and is out of an Italian mare who was a Group I placegetter in Sweden. Tomas Malmqvist’s Backfire   (Offshore Dreama)   was a close second in her heat but will be one of the fancied runners because she has a habit of taking the runners-up spot in big races.  She was second in the E3 Langa fillies final and also the E3 Korta fillies (sprint) final and also has a fast record of 12.1(1.56MR). She will be driven by Erik Adielsson.   Peter Untersteiner’s  Neona Princess  (Gigant Neo) won her heat and has a strong record of seven wins in nine starts. Apart from her heat win her best other victory was in the E3 consolation her best, while her quickest time is 12.5. She has drawn three and will be driven by Kenneth Haugstad.  Untersteiner’s other entrant is  Our Precious   (Pearsall Hanover)   another heat winner although this was only her second win, and undoubtledly her best performance so far She has only had 10 starts but is beautifully bred, being from the same family as Super Bowl and will be driven by Jörgen Sjunnesson.   Ragata (Deweycheatumnhowe) was second in her heat  and Swedish-based Finn Timo Nurmos’ filly’s best win was in March when she won the Coccinelles lopp in Solvalla, beating home Fly The World. She has Jorma Kontio in the bike.   Room to Go   (Varenne) is trained and driven by  Hans-Owe Sundberg   and  was also second in her heat in a time that was not bettered earlier. She has only won two of her seven starts but does have a very quick record of 12.3 (1.56.2MR) which she took when running a close second in the heat of the E3 to Mythical Fortune, so does have talent.
